Wow. That would most definitely include the Buzzsaw too then, given it shares a fence with TRR and is literally right next door. Looks like it's going to be back to being the Big8 for quite a while then, huh ? That said, and with the Buzzsaw out of the equation, the Gold Rush area can be quite easily fenced off without affecting traffic flow throughout the remainder of the park (fence at GR main entrance, fence at bridge near Giant Drop). Honestly though, at this stage, I'll just be relieved for the park to continue operating, in light of all the malicious rumours and speculation that it may "never open again". I never believed that for a second, but the concept alone was still enough to send a chill down my spine. I think this is an absolutely terrible tragedy, I really do. I've made no secret of how much this horrible loss of life has affected me personally over the past couple of days, it has rocked me to my absolute core. But, like many others here, I've grown up with the park since the 80s, and never want to see Dreamworld close, especially in such a manner as this. It has to stay open ❤️4 points

Not if the design, maintenance or operation of the road was a key factor in the accident.2 points

a game based around various amputee patients who then decide to fight it out in random team fight that usually end in various people yelling such things as NOOB or GTFO...1 point

Drove past today and concrete was being pumped towards the front of the current park boundary, just south of GL. Lots of clusters of foundations including a clear banked turn at Entertainment Rd1 point

DREAMWORLD will remain closed until after the funerals are held for the victims killed in Tuesday’s ride disaster. Speaking at a press conference on Friday afternoon, CEO Craig Davidson confirmed the theme park would not reopen until the funerals of all four victims had been held and all investigations are completed. Mr Davidson also invited the community to attend a second special candlelight vigil outside the park from 6pm tonight.1 point

In Europe RCS GMBH get a lot of work because they are specialists in ride assembly, and EU laws make it easy for them to work across the continent. Before RMC started building their own coasters they worked in a similar niche in the US market. But any competent construction company can do the work, with supervision by the ride manufacturer.1 point

I wonder if Tommy Boy would still be saying the same thing if one of the families said that they'd never be ready and demand the whole place shut for good. Ridiculous statement. The park should open as quickly as they can, whilst having regard to the ongoing investigation, the sensitivities of the situation and any legal and compliance obligations. Hundreds of staff out of work, thousands of ticket holding guests... as we've heard, it was recommended that 'getting back to business as usual' was the best thing that they could do. it is the same for anyone involved in a critical incident - acknowledge the event, but get back to normal routine as soon as possible. The longer that takes, the more everyone has to dwell, and the greater the impact the event has. As a former sufferer of critical incident stress i've seen what dwelling, and lack of regular routine can do to your mind. it isn't pleasant, so I understand perfectly why the consultants have recommended a quick reopening.1 point

Annual general meetings must take place within five months of the end its financial year. They do however have the power to delay votes and Ardent's handling of everything thus far has been nothing short of disastrous. They should have postponed the vote on Deborah Thomas's ~$800,000 bonus. Even once Ms Thomas bowed to pressure and announced the donation, there have been deliberate and obvious omissions in regards to the longer term share portion of this bonus, which is why this disparity exists between the donated $167,500 amount and the reported ~$800,000 figures. They shouldn't have been caught out with their claims of being in contact with the families. They probably should have postponed the vote on the company name change. In this case they either didn't anticipate any backlash prior to going ahead, or they weighed their options and decided that the name change as a footnote in all the bad press is better than reawakening the beast in a few months time with the news. You can't fault them for being stuck in the unfortunate position of proceeding with the AGM, but they really haven't managed it well. It's not. It's to bring it in-line with their overseas business dealings which have become more of their focus.1 point

I get excited for almost anything, and the Final Party was no exception. It sounded like such a good time. It was going to be the highlight of this year's Fright Nights for me. I don't think the cancellation is the wrong move, however. Considering the sensitive subjects that Halloween events seem to dance around with, it makes absolute sense to me that they would cancel in light of the events that transpired this past week. Changes to events have happened previously, and I'm sure it will happen again. Even some of the world's best Halloween events have had to make alterations in light of local, national and even international tragedies. Universal Studio's Halloween Horror Nights in 2001 had to make an immense amount of changes for their season in light of the September 11 attacks. All references to gore had to be removed, titles had to be changed, and even the marketing icon from that year had to be scrapped all in an effort to appeal to the more sensitive audience of the time. Just a year later, Universal had to retool their original concept for that season as a string of child abductions rendered their original Village of the Dammed-esque child icon to be in bad taste. The Final Party would've been an absolute blast if everything had gone according to plan. It would've been a treat to experience everything that the team would have provided. Unfortunately, it would have to have been a perfect world for that to occur, and reality just isn't perfect; it's flawed. Life is unpredictable, and I commend the VRTP team for knowing when to fold. I would much rather remember Fright Nights 2016 as a relatively mediocre event in the shadow of a national tragedy, than to remember it as "The Year of Public Insensitivity".1 point

You don't think that maybe in the interests of the company and its shareholders to have contracted psychologists and counsellors that suggest the park reopen as soon as possible? No one has stated the very obvious (and somewhat cynical) truth. Reopening in a memorial capacity is a logical business decision by virtue of how it can improve the company's goodwill and PR standing. It softens the blow of reopening and shows that as a company they are doing everything they can to support the families. It actively encourages the public to come back with the knowledge that money they spend will be helping. Questions of overall safety notwithstanding, business as usual will be the way Dreamworld rebounds from this, and the memorial day is a masterstroke PR activity to facilitate this.1 point

X2 is one of my faves, it's got so much intensity and is a complete mind f***. One of two big reasons to go to the mountain. Back on that big patch of dirt next to movie world (management tells my local friends it's just a fountain lol), any significant movements (other than in the worker's portaloo)?1 point

@Bailz as mentioned earlier, proxy (absent) voting for motions at the AGM began weeks ago, they didn't just decide to vote on it yesterday and the format, structure and outcomes of a AGM are fairly tightly bound by corporation law0 points

This is an absolutely tragic accident, ambulance officers currently treating four people can not confirm if there is a death until police make comments. Raft has slipped, one person has been caught in conveyor. Currently in contact with Intamin and maintenance staff to find possible causes. Press Conference about future attractions has been pushed back. Absolutely horrible. UPDATE: One confirmed dead, possible second.-1 points

No, they haven't "shut down the park", they've advised Dreamworld to not re-open. They're not locking the gates or anything. I'd like to see the memorial in a quiet corner of the park, not in Gold Rush (or whatever replaces it, if it is removed).-1 points

I have tears for all involved. My heart goes out to them. I have vowed to go back to the park after my daughter nearly drowned and staff did nothing even after I was screaming out to them and when I spoke to the park they did not care. I will definitely never go back to the park now.-6 points
