it is a happy birthday. They've reopened, the park looks better than ever, and they can only go up from here. I really fucking wish people would stop downcasting the park like this incident just happened. it was over a month ago. In news media, it's dead and fucking buried. Move on...3 points

You should be more careful POP, Movie World is in the same theme park chain as Sea World. I'm sure the money you spend to get into the park could go towards any of the four VRTP parks. Beware ?3 points

Dreamworld via facebook: Thought it might be a good idea to share some photos of the park over the years in its own thread, so please share any old photos you have of the park2 points

Hmm. Several years ago I actually considered Sea World to be better (overall) than Movie World. It's a far cry from how things are now. Movie World keeps getting better, but poor Sea World is very much the opposite. A grand total of 4 (yes, FOUR) rides listed on the website now. Granted one of them is Nickelodeon Land, which is actually several rides, but still. Nowhere near good enough Sea World! I was just watching a couple of videos of Bermuda Triangle this morning. Reminded me how awesome it was.2 points

even as a batman tragic I pretend that movie barely exists... So, it's not info or news relevant enough to start a new thread over so I'll post it here. An outgoing Warner Bros executive confirmed today that in 2018 we will see a re-imagining of Scooby Doo hit the screens. I think late 2018/early 2019 would be an awesome time to Scooby to get a major refurb, with new/refreshed theming, new elements in the 'disco room' and (please!!) new queue videos. Make it a Scooby for the next generation2 points

This is already in place. I spotted it from the highway on Sunday. Looks good. Not quite as tall as the Pub but should be fun for families.2 points

Happy 35th Birthday Dreamworld! That Facebook post by DW that @reanimated35 shared was very interesting: Despite opening a year later, Thunderbolt & the surrounding Country Fair must have been planned to open on opening day as that park map of DW was published in the Gold Coast Bulletin on opening day exactly 35 years ago. The area we consider Main Street was originally called Plaza with Main Street being the bit between Plaza & Country Fair (current day area between Top Spin & the Main Street Fountain). Kelly's Shooting Gallery (known for being in Town Of Gold Rush) was originally in Gum Tree Gully. The island's original name was Castaway Island. An art gallery originally featured near the Ice Cream Parlour. The Fairytale Treasures was not there on opening day - instead it was White House Souvenirs. The Bumper Cars were originally located in front of Thunderbolt. A helipad existed originally where Town Of Gold Rush stands. An 'Indian Camp' existed near where Dreamworld Woolshed now stands - the purpose of the Indian Camp? It wasn't for the Captain Sturt Paddle Steamer, you'll find out in the article I've posted below. If anyone wants a more high-resolution look at that newspaper feature that DW posted, click here. It's nice to have an opening day park map that clearly states every single ride, attraction, shop, amenity etc. This photo from Gold Coast City Council shows Rix family members on the Captain Sturt Paddle Wheeler at DW's official opening (Norm Rix - furthest family member on the right - was the Gold Coast City Council Alderman for Ward 2 at the time) This article from The Australian Woman's Weekly archived on the National Library Of Australia's Trove service was published approximately 2 months prior to opening: The last sentence of the above article is the most important sentence in the whole article.2 points

I know exactly how tall it is... Regardless of that, I think it will be a very fun ride. I'm not a fan of huge drop tower rides anyway.2 points

I put this together showing some Dreamworld ads over the years. I do have some other Dreamworld ads but the video was long enough. Tune in next year for them and the Young Talent Time Dreamworld special.2 points

@Jordan M., I think they are complaining that your initial post was very vague - you don't write a topic title mentioning 'upcharge attraction' & have the 1st post not mention anything similar to that at all. It's like me writing a topic called 'New Sydney Theme Park Confirmed' and then posting 'Noticed some construction/earth works next to Wet 'n' Wild Sydney the other day in the space formerly occupied by some farms. Some shipping containers around too... I wonder what they have coming.'. There was no link to connect the 2 pieces of information together - the posts literally meant anything. And if the information is public, can you just show us or link us to it? @YLFATEEKS, I figured out the image you posted - why did you even post it in this topic though? Go-karts? Wouldn't that require permanent infrastructure?1 point

Why? They can just extend the date like they have with Doomsday?1 point

my completely uneducated guess would be on the site of the old octopus. its about the only clear space i can think of, excepting the mouse (which I don't think is clear yet).1 point

Suck shit POP It's still closed. Unless you are going Boxing day.1 point

Thunderbolt had 4 blocks.. 1. Boarding / disembark 2. Lift hill 3. Ride itself and first brake run (covered with a tunnel around late 80's) 4. Second trim brake set. The ride could run with 3 trains. Not sure if someone on here could verify, it may indeed have been the case ( that DW owned 3 trains)1 point

I had never seen that map before, cool stuff! Here's to another 35. I hope in the coming years the park goes the way of the phoenix and rises up from the ashes (speaking about the recent tragedy and the way the park had been run previously) and turns into something beautiful again. I think we're on the right track with how Tiger Island looks, but time will tell.1 point

Wet’n’Wild issued a statement shortly after the incident, confirming the teenage girl had complained of pain in her neck at the completion of the ride. “Lifeguards and the on-site nurse provided first aid,” the statement read. “The guest advised lifeguards of a pre-existing condition and she was transported to hospital as a matter of precaution.” “The safety and wellbeing of guests is the highest priority at Wet’n’Wild Gold Coast. “The park has a highly trained emergency response team and works closely with emergency services.” Witnesses told myGC the Aqua Loop slide was closed for around an hour. It has since reopened. Just like POP is always going to be a dick every time somebody sneezes at a theme park we will know about it.1 point

Well, Wet N Wild is doomed to be closed down for good then, aren't they?1 point

My quick thoughts on Doomsday is this: ....Mmmmmmmmmmm.... I'm very indifferent about the ride experience itself. It's far too controlled. Instead of feeling like a swinging pendulum, it feels like an overtly controlled loop-dee-loop. Having said this, it's a pretty bog standard flat ride, and it's exactly what they needed. It's a great filler, and in the context of the Super Villains precinct, the area is a shit hot addition as a whole.1 point

Sadly it's not really such a happy birthday for Dreamworld. Very sad that the recent incident occurred at all, and for it to happen so close to Dreamworld's 35th birthday just makes it even worse in a way. Still though. It has to be all about the future now, and with good management and the right investments, the future could be wonderful for Dreamworld. I hope it will be. Out of curiosity, what happened to that house on the island?0 points

So far, I'm happy to be wrong, but this comes across as either a "I know something you don't know" brag thread, or a poorly worded guess posted as fact.0 points

Have you considered I have been told something in confidence months back and am simply reporting what can been seen publicly as of yesterday. I didn't have to post at all. If I wanted to "I know something you don't" I could have reported on Vikings when I first heard about it or carnival at Sea World. All the wingers feel free to go down to WNW yourself and take some photos. Think closer to what was rumoured to be going in HWSD between shows. Does not require any major/overly permanent infustructure. For those that complained when I chose not to post White Christmas you have a funny way of showing appreciation when I do contribute.-2 points
