  1. So hubby & I observed a few signs of activity happening down at the Rocky Hollow Log Ride this afternoon. The water pumps had been evidently switched on, as the fountains in the reservoir were running for the first time in months. There was water in the station trough, (although the rest of the track was still dry). The maintenance window at the top of the drop shed was open, suggesting that maintenance has been taking place up there in the past few days (it was closed previously). Definitely some activity happening in there at the moment, and hopefully an early indication that they plan to reopen the ride soon. Fingers crossed ☺️?

  5. Logs have been removed, just the pool, which is now a garden bed and the tree remain. Hopefully some seating will be added. Think it was a good move by DW rather than leaving a concrete patch.

  6. Snap! You got me there @andrewt92. I wrote 800 words about the campaign that pointed out some confusing and poorly executed aspects. I'm a veritable party-pooper! The crux of my argument was that despite being a great concept for Dreamworld, in many instances the editing and execution doesn't distinguish between things that are real and things that could be real. If you've got an alternative opinion that doesn't rely on ad hominem attacks or just "but it's imagination!" then I'm all ears.

  7. I'm just going to add that there is a big difference between posting a question on a niche industry forum like this and posting a bad review to a mass public social engagement medium like Trip Advisor or Facebook so the bad restaurant review analogy doesn't sit true for me here.

  8. Not a huge fan of the way they've finished off that orange building. It's a very polished/modern look which does not match with the top of the original design at all. In fact, in real life you can clearly see the new boards 'over' the original building. What's worse, the jelly bean facade looks terrible - however, I'm hoping they do some more work to improve the look of that. Such a shame considering the work Dreamworld has been doing to restore its original charm on Main Street.

  9. It's nice that LPS continues to survive and do well. I kinda thought they got it when they started adding temporary rides for Summer season, and adding things as budget permitted. This is the first thing from them in a while where rather than thinking 'oh good they're treading water' you think 'Oh cool I can't wait to see what they do next!'. Would love to see what their results have been like, but the success of the small/medium sized parks in Australia does bode well for the future. Does make Luna Park Melbourne seem like more of a shithole than it already is though.

  11. I can confirm that Coney Island, Wild Mouse and Rotor are not going anywhere with the announced facelift. Although this news is not surprising, it should breathe a huge sigh of relief for lovers of the iconic fun palace. Also, in regards to the new rides, it appears that there will be a heavy emphasis on theming! This should give some clues as to how they are going to progress: http://www.planning.nsw.gov.au/News/2017/Community-feedback-sought-for-proposed-refurbishments-at-Luna-Park Really, Really excited for all these plans to come to fruition- this is the most exciting thing to happen to LPS since the 1995 reopening. Unfortunately, still no word OR denial about the much needed second coaster.......fingers crossed!

  12. The way I see it the original poster posted this story to gauge whether anyone's had it happen to them and if it's a common occurrence. There's no insinuation of wrongdoing. Yes it sounds like something worthwhile to bring up with the park directly but it's also an interesting thing to discuss with other theme park fans. Anyone is free to come to these forums to discuss interesting, unusual or even concerning things they encounter at theme parks. The theme park mollycoddling on these forums gets a bit much sometimes. If we're so protective of our precious theme parks that we sacrifice interesting conversation for the sake of things the media might get wind of, then what do we talk about at all?

  13. The current Studio Gate House would be my guess as one of Top Golfs car parks is after the gatehouse. Suggest the gatehouse will be moved to just after the car park

  14. Imagine if you saw an ad for a Hotel that showed Pools outside and a spa bath. You then book that hotel because of how good the hotel looks in that ad. When you arrive, you discover the pool does not exist yet and none of the rooms in the hotel have spa baths. I think you would rightly complain and request compensation because the advertising was misleading and you purchased the stay based on invalid information. How is Dreamworld advertising experiences it does not offer differ from this situation?

  15. Bit Richard you've proposed an objective point of view outside of your own personal feelings and that of an enthusiast... Surly you now expect to be shot down in flames

  16. There's suspension of disbelieve; I think that's required of any themed attraction. That is completely different from using your imagination. I'd like to think there's no adult on this site that is genuinely imagining themselves saving a Sea Lion on a jet ski, on a train during an earthquake in Metropolis, or doing whatever it is you're doing on Tower of Terror II with all those underground tunnels and turbines. That said you can appreciate your surrounds and let yourself enjoy the story or atmosphere as it's presented to you. You can appreciate it whether it's as simple as a few props surrounding the ride, or a mind-blowing universe everywhere you look. This campaign should be about how Dreamworld brings imagination to life. That's where the power of this concept lies, and both Dreamworld and the ad agency completely missed that. This "fill in the gaps with whatever you want" angle makes no sense in the context of a theme park that has always put some effort into presenting each attraction with its own unique look and storyline of sorts. Why are the ad agency and Dreamworld so oblivious to the fact that The Claw is themed to an Australian beachside town that they came up with a nonsensical medieval knights concept to promote the ride? Someone take a crack at explaining the rationale there please. Here's how it's done properly; Legoland pulled off this same basic concept perfectly several years ago. Note that they introduce fantasy elements while portraying the attractions accurately.

  17. I always sit in the Billabong Restaurant imagining my party pies are Wagyu grain-fed morsels of deliciousness whilst staring out the window at the Jungle Cruise waiting to depart. Then the kid behind me hits me in the back of the head with a nugget and I realise I have the chewy remains of some minced unspecified farm animal stuck between my teeth and even the ducks don't want to cruise down the river. #pureimagination

  18. I thought the commercial was great and seems to reflect 90% of the consensus on this forum. The front page article does no better for the parks then the usual media beat up every time a ride breaks down. Dreamworld is going back to their roots and essentially the ad is showing a 'Dream World' of sorts. Richard Wilson has taken the commercial far too literally and I get the impression he wouldn't be too fun at parties. Maybe we should show clips of people lining up for rides or simply staring at animals through glass in order to convey realism. I'm sure that would sent the public to Dreamworld in droves.
