  1. Safe to do say Dreamworld & Pico Play won’t be collaborating on anything in the future… Court rules against Dreamworld in Gold Coast theme park payment battle Dreamworld has lost a Supreme Court battle after refusing to pay $555,000 to the design company behind its new $35m Rivertown precinct. Dreamworld has lost a Supreme Court battle in which it was accused of trying to short-change a leading theme park attractions company involved in a new multimillion-dollar precinct at the Gold Coast fun park. The stoush over the $35m Rivertown project, which opened late last year, erupted between Dreamworld owners Coast Entertainment and attraction design company Pico Play Pty Ltd, which has worked on projects worldwide including Bluey’s World in Brisbane and Movie World’s Wizard of Oz precinct. Pico Play launched legal action earlier this year after Coast Entertainment declined to pay a $555,000-plus on a $4.1m contract for the Jungle Rush and Murrissipi Motors (vintage car) themed areas of Rivertown. The payment claim went to a building industry adjudicator who rejected the application on the basis that he lacked jurisdiction, after determining that the claim did not have a valid reference date and that Pico Play had undertaken to perform unlicensed building work. The company took both Coast Entertainment and adjudicator Christopher Taylor to court alleging that the claim was valid and that Mr Taylor had erred in relation to the unlicensed work finding. Court documents reveal Coast Entertainment rejected the payment claim after themed components for the project were either missing, delivered late or defective. The company denied performing unlicensed building work, as its role was limited to designing, fabricating and delivering certain themed components to the site. Pico project manager Marnus Hendrikse, in an affidavit, said the company had experienced various delays during the project which were not within its control, including design delays and a typhoon which disrupted the transport of goods from its factory in Vietnam. Mr Hendrikse said the contract did not require Pico to seek an extension of time but he had worked collaboratively with the theme park operator to provide updates. He said Pico Play had accepted some payment deductions by Coast Entertainment but others were in dispute. Lawyers for Pico Play contended that Mr Taylor had made a “jurisdictional error” in rejecting the company’s adjudication application because the claim did have a valid reference date and no unlicensed building work was carried out. The lawyers said Pico Play had delivered goods to the Rivertown site in December last year, establishing the reference date. The company denied performing unlicensed building work, as its role was limited to designing, fabricating and delivering certain themed components to the site. Coast Entertainment’s lawyers argued that Mr Taylor was correct in his ruling, saying Pico Play tried to re-characterise its final claim as a progress claim “when faced with evidence of later deliveries and missing items”. They said Pico Play did not hold an open builders licence between October 20023 and July 2024 and its restricted structural landscaping licence did not cover the full scope of works under the contract. The Coast Entertainment lawyers said Mr Taylor was therefore correct in finding that Pico Play had undertaken to carry out building work, in breach of the construction act. They said Pico Play’s contractual obligations went “beyond mere off-site” fabrication and it had wrongly sought to characterise its work as “ornamental or ancillary”. In a judgment handed down last month, Justice Declan Kelly found in Pico Play’s favour and declared Mr Taylor’s adjudication decision to be void. The dispute marked a souring of relations between Pico Play and Dreamworld, which have collaborated on multiple projects over the years. After visiting Pico Play’s Vietnamese facility early last year, Dreamworld CEO Greg Yong said the company had a “super talented” team and he felt “100 per cent confident” in their handling of the Rivertown project. https://www.goldcoastbulletin.com.au/news/queensland/court-rules-against-dreamworld-in-gold-coast-theme-park-payment-battle/news-story/f31577a5d73e483815295a4e25be9119?fbclid=IwZnRzaANlGOFleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHpkhxSyrpUeqLKFfHVpw56c-8fGyVPRYblH8GdoVsXEHcS8WZk1agilY8UKN_aem_1nl8qN6VJS7I0nmognlixQ
  2. It’s that attitude which is why VTP has gone from the peak to the bottom of the pile. I’d like to see the breakdown of paid tickets vs free redemptions for annual passholders. One would think the gate itself is pretty small, and yes relying on F&B and add on’s for revenue. But it’s that small minded thinking that is holding it back. If spooky nights blows people away, it enhances their pass renewal rates which in turn brings more people to all their properties through the year.
  3. Not great tonight tbh.. trident and vortex closed leviathan running a single train only JR obviously single train storm the only ride pumping through some capacity show identical to the last 3 year, not even a change in scripting or anything - zero effort here. needs a full refresh
  4. For those who attended opening night - where are each of the mazes located? MW has decided not to put that info on the website or app versions of the park map, nor listed it on the individual maze pages on the website. trying to plan our movements for the night in advance to get the most out of it (when visiting with interstate friends who also want to get on some rides) Assuming DCeased is still in the old arcade/dodgems - are the other 4 all in the 2 sheds out the back of West?
  5. Stars Terrace opened today. the space looks quite nice from the photos going around on social media. menu is relatively limited but offers a point of difference to other options (with an associated price rise). menus: https://movieworld.com.au/dining/stars-terrace?fbclid=IwdGRjcANK97FleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHnC9fds-zjMxyX4qS623TdNCDGoQ-mFe4khKQgLEWdmcsfU37pUmrw5zIlRn_aem_mlDg0CadupNFG4KRe3Ib5w
  6. I may be confusing it with another ride, but I’m sure when I was there in Dec 2023 you got a elasticised wristband with the locker key on it. Getting just a piece of paper to put in your pocket seems rather crazy before a ride that flips you around at speed
  7. The only benefit of FOWW at FN is not having to queue in the sun. It's a decent detour away from everything to only land in the ride with the slowest operations in the park. I feel sorry for anyone visiting for the first time on FN's who makes the decision to head into Oz.
  8. Both VTP and CE have had people interact on these forums in the past, and likely still do in a passive manner. I have no doubt opinions and thoughts on here, and on several enthusiast social media pages and websites, are monitored and if they point to an easy fix (like incorrect marketing or in park issues) they are actioned.
  9. It shouldn't happen. They pay people good money to manage their social media. They are a professional multi-million dollar business who are the "leaders" in their category. Posts shouldn't have typos or grammatical errors. It's not Bob from around the corner looking for lawns to mow on a community page.
  10. His kryptonite is buffet restaurants….
  11. What in the god-awful f**k is this suit ?
  12. Care of DW Golden Years FB. queue rails have been installed in JR to separate the single rider/ride express queue from the general standby queue. whilst it’s good to have these separated (asking to push through/pass people when you had an express pass wasnt exactly great and usually copped you some scorned looks like you were queue jumping), because they are obviously a post-design change, they look pretty horrible to me and wreck what was theme wise a fantastic queue. maybe a more neutral colour or something more akin to the walls would have worked better than what they went with
  13. 100% Everyone wants to save the koalas, unless the koala's were living where their house was built, on the roads accessing their homes, or the shopping centres where they conveniently go shopping. the gold coast is full of convenient conservationalists
  14. I think it’s got a few seasons in it given a return to the live voting, 24/7 cams etc it will pique interest
  15. They are in a bit of a bind marketing wise as Jane’s is somewhat in competition with the food trucks at the night market. Don’t think any long term decision has been made but they are taking time to review
  16. Haha, it’s the same every time. Selected “micro-influencers” audited by recruitment agencies and talent management companies
  17. no. They'll want the influencer's and wanna-be soap stars they choose to have the most possible time tanning in swimsuits by the pool....
  18. Yeah i know it has access, but it isn't really suitable to build an outdoor area in the surrounds of the gold coaster ride envelope - not to say it couldnt work, but with the apparent time constraints you'd think an area with foundations/cleared, some landscaping etc already in place would be the better choice. Thankfully my son is well out of wiggles phase now, but all the years we saw them at dreamworld it was always on Main St and worked well. This is the area the poster referred to as the location - i do agree with you that it doesn't seem production suitable at all for tv lighting and cameras etc.
  19. Believe that was pulled quite a while back now (maybe when they started showing other non-Australian films)
  20. Like most it seems like a strange decision for me. I expected the conference centre to be used for the eviction shows etc, but not to be the house location, and the loss of a popular ride for multiple months is far from ideal. A poster online who seems to have some knowledge over the production said they would be constructing a small outdoor area alongside the conference centre for the housemates - looking at the space they have to work with - the only place that would work is outside the entrance doors and flowrider used to be. Every other side of the conference centre is land locked. Could we potentially see the Trolls Village utilised for this purpose? Either way, you'd think it would be unlikely they keep Barrel's Burger Bar open as thats a noisy high-traffic area during the day, and we'll likely see the area cordoned off just after Kickback Cove. Tailspin may give some overview of that area during production, so be interesting to see if that continues to run or they install quite high walls to block sight lines. Same person online mentioned the eviction shows will be held within White Water World
  21. Pretty sure that is all it is for now. There hasn’t been significant downtime of any of the enclosures etc to enable any large scale changes, nor is it really needed.
  22. Superman not looking good for a return anytime soon
  23. I mean it’s a fun exercise if you were looking for something to do - but 99% of your figures are straight guess work. any estimation of revenue from gate sales requires at least some knowledge of what the sales mix of attendees are (ie day pass, annual pass, some other holiday pass). On an off peak Tuesday you may find 80% of your visitors are annual pass holders, so there is no direct gate income in that day from a large portion of your crowd. then the avg duration of stay for annual pass holders - something not able to be tracked, as that then impacts revenue per head on F&B (annual pass holders more like to leave before lunch, or arrive after) and merch (annual pass holders less likely to buy on any given day). There is a myriad financial lines to consider; of which you have only handled a few. but as I said, if it was just an activity in fun, then it’s accuracy is of little consequence
