Sure would have made that show interesting!  😬 . Really hope nobody was hurt.  Seems like quite a freak accident.  Rare for Disney in some ways.

Rare freak accident? I'd say it's actually quite the opposite of that, considering the Malificent dragon in the Disney parade also caught on fire a year or so ago and was covered all over the news

It crossed my mind that it could have been some what purpose full for publicity or insurance but I don’t think Disney is that desperate.

Highy doubtful. They just reopened the show, and they're going into summer during the 100th. It's the last time they would want that happening.

The parade incident was over five years ago. Disney uses pyrotechnics thousands of times a day at a minimum all around the world. This is not a common occurrence.

It was suggested by someone who claims to have worked on the show previously that the park has been cutting back on non essential maintenance, and that they believe Murphy has been suffering as a result - initial observations suggested that the propellant wasn't sprayed out as intended, and instead dripped down inside the superstructure, igniting flammable parts inside. 

On my recent trip to the park I observed a lot of what i'd call 'lacking maintenance' and while I wouldn't have suggested anything safety related was impacted, the whole 'show' aspect was a little tired.

This is surprising to hear. 
I was at the park in December and I didn’t see anything like you described so shame to hear that’s happening now.
