King Claw went out for tender today.  Images from public tender.

this new love affair with nods, is staring to become a bit meh.

Maybe don’t look at it as them leaning into nostalgia, but more that it’s forming part of King Claw’s story line. The larger more dominant creature (King Claw) has attacked the smaller creature (The Claw) and has left some of its remains amongst the carnage of the dock.

I don't hate what they have done, it just becomes meh if they are planning on doing it all the time.

I disagree. I'd rather a park honour it's history than turn it into storage sheds.

Only old people want DW to become a museum.  🙄

Tear it down, throw it in the trash and give me 100% new experience every day of the week.

Good thing i'm not old and never said 'museum' then hey?

I said 'honour their history' - and little nods in new constructions are the perfect way to do it - like how Disney incorporates clever nods to replaced attractions - eg: skyway gondola in Matterhorn, Eeyore (parking sign) inside Indiana Jones to name just two.

But you'll also note I said that i'd rather than than turn it into storage sheds. So if given the choice - i'm going with nods than bulldozing guest accessible areas to store back of house shit.

It's a detail that people will either notice or they won't. I don't think anyone is going to look at the old claw and be disgusted by it, nor have they sacrificed any quality in King Claw's presentation just to shoe-horn in the reference. It's literally hurting no one.

At the end of the day, in this case it was probably so easy for them to add a little monument to the old Claw that they had no reason not to. The theming was already there, and it fits fairly well tangentially into the new theme. It would have been just a matter of keeping it instead of turning it into landfill.

Really, I see no reason to complain. If nods, Easter eggs and references are not your thing, they're not your thing, but they aren't hurting anyone by being there. I'll come back and agree with you when they come up with some convoluted excuse to force in references where they don't fit or ruin immersion, but for now, they're doing it subtly enough, so why not?

King Claw will feature metal detectors as guest board the ride to ensure no one has any loose items in their pockets. There is a storage carousel for all loose articles, which rotates to keep the flow of loading and unloading as efficient as possible.

Quite a funny little jab at MovieWorld within the King Claw theming, a ferry departure sign stating Village Road is closed for maintenance. 😂 seen it on Themepark Ogres video, also technical rehearsal signs are within the ride envelope. We could be riding very soon

If you're going to do metal detectors, you can't do them "as guests board". Old mate with a belt buckle, or a metal plate in his head is going to hold up the line while they check and double check that it's not just his loose change in his pocket.

Metal detectors need to either be at the entrance to the queue (Battlestar Galactica), with lockers prior to queueing, or at a mid point prior to the final load queue (flying dinosaur).

This will likely turn the attraction from a capacity machine into a hobbled horse.

It might not be the last thing thats done as guests are sitting down, but to my understanding it’s part of the boarding process. So maybe there’s are loading/boarding area, where people wait and go through metal detection while the ride is cycling. Therefore that wouldn’t slow down the boarding process and keeps things as efficient and safe as possible.

🤣 it's funny you think that:

-> they spend more than a moment chucking in a cheeky dig that has very little direct cost associated with it

-> that this moment, or the associated minimal cost of having a signwriter paint a few words on a board that they were going to do anyway would make a real difference in the cost to operate a waterpark in the offseason.

It's likely the signboard would have existed anyway, and they had to put thought into what to write on it anyway, so the fact they settled on a good natured dig at their competitor is zero additional cost or effort - unlike operating a water park at a loss.

I wonder if Dapto would say the same, if Village started airing DW's dirty laundry.

I mean - Wet N Wild literally has the slogan 'Biggest N Best' which only came about after WWW got built.

Good natured digs in the spirit of competition aren't a problem. It's a case of whether the topic you choose to target would pass the sniff test... (wait for it....)

Got it. DW are picking a fight with themselves because the people running DW now are the same people who were running Village parks when the slogan came about.

DW according to Dapto.  😂

WnW is the biggest and the best.   WWW can't say they are the biggest and the best because WnW isn't open today.

@Brad2912 I hope so because my pass runs out in a couple of weeks.

If the benchmark for good-natured digs is that they need to be true, then you should be totally fine with the King Claw joke. Movie World has 5 major rides under maintenance as of today, and that number has been higher recently.

If a good natured dig only needs to be true for people to be fine with it, MW should start calling out DW for the 2016 accident.

I knew that was coming, that's why I told everyone to
