King Claw went out for tender today.  Images from public tender.

Now imagine what they can do on a dark/water ride in the future. They are definitely doing an amazing job as of late with the theming

I wonder what they're waiting to put in here behind the test seat...

The inevitable part left over after assembly.. hehe.. repurpose it as a sign stand!! :P

King Claw hasn’t opened to the public yet, but it’s running constant test cycles and a queue has begun forming at the entrance of the attraction. So it’s looking very likely that it will open at some point today. Even from just viewing it off ride, I’m already blown away. The spectacle of it swinging over Main Street is fantastic and the ride’s soundtrack (a dramatic orchestral score that syncs up with the ride and can be heard throughout the surrounding area) creates an incredible atmosphere.

More theming has been added to the queue line and the surrounding area.IMG_9391.thumb.jpeg.d4e18d77e3a1e816f70dc618beef1d07.jpegIMG_9389.thumb.jpeg.f8c412ac1e3d624be15cb0622a44d2f4.jpeg

It also looks like the ride will have a great lighting package at night with various stage lights (including a moving head) placed throughout the area. IMG_9392.thumb.jpeg.7d1594b61a348ae0602c798d825a4c29.jpeg

Are there ocean splash noises in the queue? Cause i keep thinking it would have been a cool effect to have some white water splashing like they have over the Nemo Pavillion sign at EPCOT where that Claw fence topper sits.

Apparently there is and also a “wave lighting package” is or has been added for a wave like look at night time

Yeah, there’s actually a lot of sound effects around the ride. The King Claw sculpture roars and you can hear waves crashing under the boardwalk as you travel over it. When you get inside the main queue area (The Ferry Terminal), these wave sounds combine with seagull and clanking pier noises. Then, when the ride starts, these sounds die down and the cinematic score takes over. Overall, the sound design is fantastic. There’s also themed safety announcements which is a pretty nice touch.

Have you tested the metal detectors to be in working order?  @Noll_57

Yeah, I’ve been through it 4 times now. The first time it growled at me because of my belt. But strangely, all the other times it let me through without an issue. It seems to be very hit and miss in that regard from what I’ve observed.

As for the ride itself, wow, what an upgrade from the original Claw! The new restraints are a huge improvement over the original ones, super comfortable and they allow for quite a bit of movement. You feel so free in them. Pretty much everything that was great about The Claw has been retained and improved upon dramatically. The ride is ultra smooth, while still being extremely forceful with fantastic airtime.

100% this!

First cycle I went on it was lacklustre. It definitely didn’t go full height and the brakes/magnets were engaging as it went past the middle, so it was fairly slow.

Second cycle however… WOW! They’ve nailed it with ride choice. Absolutely improved every aspect of The Claw. Got another 2 cycles in by the end of the day…

Props to DW ops too! Silky smooth boarding for the first public soft open.

It looks really good, can't wait to go back up there in April and try. Hopefully it's more comfortable, as the old Intamin OTSR's didn't like my broad shoulders... the harness would stop before even touching my stomach but didn't have any issues with the Doomsday harnesses.

Curious as to who did the music though, sounds very "IMAscore" to me. I've said it once, and I'll say it again it's great to see just what good management can do to the place with these additions. I think with two more majors ride to Dreamworld's line up (Water ride or Dark Ride and another Thrill coaster) and the park would be pretty much perfect as far as the lineup goes.

I really do hope though that they do focus on sprucing up WhiteWater World next though as it really needs some love. I'm sure it will get done, but hopefully in the next off season or the one after. I'm sure something will be done well before the Olympics but hopefully much sooner.

I think a lot of people want the same thing.  Gold Coaster is 30 years old and is no longer appropriate for the direction DW is headed.  It was first opened 2 years after Wipeout at LPS... 9 years before The Claw - which has just been replaced.

It's eventual removal will free up a lot of space for new slide towers.

Whatever happens to WWW also needs to factor in what is happening in DW at the end of Ocean parade and hopefully that end of the park finally gets the attention it desperately needs.  Who knows, perhaps they're holding back on WWW so they can fix that whole area at the same time.
