Might just be me but I think the constant village jibes are wearing a bit thin

Especially when the ride reopening down the road has has been restored from the abomination that the now dreamworld ceo turned it into

From comments on both the Superman and Scooby (granted, still tech rehearsals but they've only got 36hrs to sort it), it's looking more like the quality issues came from higher up the food chain than the now Dreamworld CEO.

Meanwhile he's now got support from above and is making a difference.

I saw one comment about Scooby having lights on in the Queue which is obviously indeed a problem that needs to be addressed. However the piece of complete garbage that was Next Gen at Scooby was the brainchild of the GM at the time - there is no blame shifter button to push on that one. The new additions to DW are damn awesome, absolutely but that one was a big fat fail.

100% biased here but I’d be reserving judgement on SDSC until actually riding it rather than past observations. If the effects stop working in 6 months I’d be very surprised and disappointed.

Absolutely! Park is looking great! Big Fan

Went on ride today .

It made me so sick ! 6 hrs later I’m still feeling it .

One and done for me. The old claw was much more mild for sure !

See the old Claw used to make me feel sick, this new one, I’ve had no issues at all.

What have the wait times been like for this guy

Most I waited was 3 cycles, typically a one cycle wait. It eats through the crowds.

Might be situational too. First time on the Claw I was ill but managed to keep my lunch down (pandamonium wild style took me out XD)

2nd time on the Claw on a later visit I felt OK afterwards.

Another great podcast from Danesthemeparklife with Greg Young. Key topics being King Claw, more to be done to Jungle Rush and future attractions.

Next gen was an abomination - there is no question of that - but from what I'd heard - Didn't the company brought in to do the projection mapping completely fail to deliver, and they were left to cobble together the final product with minimal remaining budget?

Total rumor so definitely not speaking of fact but I think that was the ‘burning man’ guy who made a million promises and gave us such gems as that glass box around the turntable and a few cheap DJ City lasers in the disco room.

The projection was a reputable mob, just one that clearly lacked the experience and knowledge of how you need to make such things work in a ride environment where the show timing can be so dynamic.

This needs to be thought through right from the content creation stage through to the final show programming in order to get right. No guest should ever be seeing a blank screen or a shitty video reset no matter what happens.

I think early on we saw an image of them scanning the disco room - and I don't know about anyone else but it lead me to make the assumption that projection in the entire disco room was going to happen... naturally disappointing when 'next gen' was revealed.

I’ve visited the park three times during this off-peak period so far, and the way King Claw operates is honestly a bit strange and in my opinion, it negatively affects the ride experience.

The ride operators have the ability to split the ride into quarters, enabling or disabling sectors 1 to 4. When certain sectors are disabled, the restraints in those sections don’t release at the end of the cycle, effectively taking those seats out of use.

I understand this is likely done in the name of “efficiency,” but it doesn’t really seem efficient in practice. When you’re essentially halving the ride’s capacity, especially when each cycle takes around 10 minutes (unload, load, check harnesses etc...) it doesn’t take long for a queue to build up. The ride ends up operating well below its intended capacity. Then, by the time they decide to open all sectors again, there’s barely any queue left, and you're being told to spread out around the gondola and leave gaps between each other.

I don’t believe The Claw ever had these kinds of artificial capacity restrictions, which makes it a bit disappointing to see implemented here.

Another major issue King Claw has is with its exit gate. This really needs to be changed to something like Steel Taipans where it unlocks automatically at the end of the cycle as the operators are way too slow getting to it and no one can get their stuff out of the loose article spiny thing as everyone is crowding around the gate, and end up having to push through everyone to unlock it.

On a more positive note, most of the theming still looks to be in good condition after the summer holidays. I’ve noticed that the audio effects are sometimes turned off or playing at a very low volume depending on the operator. During soft opening, there was a pre-recorded spiel that played as the floor dropped, which added nicely to the atmosphere. Now, operators tend to speak over that saying something along the lines of “you’re taking on King Claw.” It’s a really minor thing, but I do find some of those announcements a bit tacky and extremely repetitive over time.

It didn’t. But on the claw if one person had a harness issue, they had to unlock the entire rides harnesses and re-check them all. With KC they only need to unlock the sector the seat is in, which speeds up efficiency massively.

I’m yet to see it operated the way you describe with segments being permanently locked out - but if crowds are low and averaging half-cycles, it makes total sense to operate that way and adjust as needed.

also never seen an issue with the exit gate, but it’s also a very different set up to ST.

https://www.amusement-rides.com/product/gyro-swing-intamin - Looks as though Claw might possibly be for sale? I know the pictures are of the bigger model but all the stats match up to The Claw. They do have it listed as a 2005 model though (Claw was 2004). Maelstrom opened in 2002 and is still operating and the only other 32 seater Gyro Swing is Goliath at Adventure World.

Very interested to see if the ride ends up being sold to another park...

Saw a post on the Dreamworld Golden years FB that it’s been moved to India so did my own digging and that’s definitely where it’s ended up. The paint scheme is unmistakable

Indian parks have been buying quite a few rides second hand as of late so glad it was able to be snapped up by someone else as it had a bit of life left in it.
