Back in the 60's and 70's Luna Park Sydney had a ride called the "Topsy Turvy House". From the outside the ride is seeing as a model of a small cottage that rotates on it's long horizontal axis. But does anyone know what actually was inside the house and what the riders experienced? I can find no information at all on this ride. It can be seen at 0:09 in this YouTube video:

Hi I see this thread is two years old but what was inside the Topsy Turvy House was a long wooden seat suspended on a horizontal pole and as the house rotated 360 degrees a guy rocked the seat backwards and forwards. This gave the optical illusion off the the house standing still and you were rotating in a 360 degree motion going backwards over and over again, I hated it. It was the only ride that made me sick, never went on it again.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=fvwp&NR=1&v=Zo4Za5Rrv0c The Topsy Turvy ride shows up again here - love the uniforms the ride ops wear.

Thanks for this!! I have never seen this episode before- it really shows Luna Park in brilliant colour!!! Some great shots of the Big Dipper, The Flying Saucer and even some fleeting glimpses of the Ghost Train!!! Fairly rare footage of Luna Park in this vintage. The Tumbling House survived until the mid 70's- they used to be a staple of virtually every amusement park of this era. Brilliant!!

I visted LPS last weekend. Took some pics of Maloney's corner that shows the amount of space they actually have for the installation of more rides. This space is severely underutilised. post-30-0-77344500-1352422766_thumb.jpg post-30-0-53416300-1352422903_thumb.jpg In saying that, there was some pretty good info from the park on FB regarding Summer rides which shows they might have some big plans for the space over the January school holidays. "Hi Luna!! Visited the park today, the kids had a great time!! Couple of questions- is the Ferris Wheel missing every 2nd carriage?? Are they down for maintenance? If so when will they be back? Also, noticed that the heritage sign for Luna Park and North Sydney Olympic Pool from the main road is missing- how long has it been gone?? Will it be back and when?? Lastly, noticed there was a lot of empty space at the back. Any plans for new permanent rides?? Also will you have a Xmas ride lineup announcement soon?? Thanks in advance! Like ·

The first half were done back in August and the other half will be back on the Wheel by this weekend. We'll make sure to post a photo of the finished product =)blank.gif The Alfred St Archway, also known as the "Welcome to North Sydney / Olympic Pool / Luna Park / Bradfield Park sign" is controlled by North Sydney Council. They removed it around 2004/2005. We understand they planned to reinstate it following major building work in the area being finished. For more up to date and accurate information on this, you might like to visit www.northsydney.nsw.gov.au. Finally, we've got "sky high" plans for Maloney's Corner this Summer. We'll release more details about this Summer attraction and the additional Summer rides soon. Stay tuned!" post-30-0-59877900-1352423495_thumb.jpg Cheers! :)

Not exactly sure what fits in with 'Sky High" theme, but there are any number of travelling rides that could fit the bill here. It does tend to indicate that the ride could be quite tall so this could test the parks resolve against any agressive residents!! The day we visted the park was also the last day that "Alone" was still in operation. "Alone" was a Halloween special attraction that converted the Coney Island Mirror Maze into a Dark Walkthrough attraction with live actors. Whilst obviously not up to the theming standard of Movie World's Halloween fare, it was great to see the Park try something different and offer a different in-house attraction. It was quite poular throught the whole day and attracted decent lines. Moving forward, I could see the park do this on an annual basis by offering a different walkthrough attraction every Xmas Holidays. They could utilise the Popcorn Hall function space just like they did with Prison Break Live several years ago. This would give a great point of difference for the park to capitalise on and could be re-themed differently every year. Food for thought!! Lastly, I have included a good quality colour pic of the LPS Topsy Turvy house in all its glory for all posters to see!! 022.JPG Cheers! http://cdn.parkz.com.au/forums/public/style_emoticons/#EMO_DIR#/smile.png
They use Maloney's Corner for traveling rides and shows during the school holidays. But the should definatly add some rides there. Move the tumblebug from the top of the building and put it in Maloney's corner. And add a boomerang coaster there. Then add a drop or launch tower in any empty part of the park. There's lots :-)
