Wow, they have nearly finished levelling all that land out now. I dare say it won't be too long until bitumen starts being laid, but they will probably want to assemble DD first? That's if they ever get this apparent issue with the arms sorted out ?☺️?

 

^That is a good point about the bitumen/foundations. Maybe there isn't something wrong with the arms, and they were just checking they were all good, and once the concrete is laid they will then install them.

that's pretty much what they are going to do. pouring concrete etc with them arms hanging there would be a nuisance they would get in the way.

Same rule as woodworking. "Measure twice cut once" or in this case measure to make sure there's no defect in the product,take them off, do the other work you need to then put them back on later.

Think of how many thousands of parts go together to make even a "simple" ride like this. No matter how well planned, bound to face some problems along the way. It's terrible with houses, someone can be given drawings to produce something off site, then when it arrives it's magically different and you either have to see if you can make it fit or send it back. How they can get it wrong from clear, precise plans, sometimes it leaves you furious and you lose days on the build. Don't want to even imagine what it's like having a ride manufactured in a foreign country you probably have little/no communication with, shipped half way around the world, then have to build and erect everything where if something is only a few mm off could mean disassembly of days of work only to fix/replace a part that might cost only a few dollars to produce.

The thing with houses is that some builders employ monkeys who do the same thing every time, so when something is out of the ordinary, they don't actually check the plans - they're doing a number 4 house, so thats how number 4 houses are done. I've seen it happen a lot.

Its up to a good site supervisor to make sure the contractors know when there is something different or unusual to be added

As for the manufacturing in a foreign country though, the thing is that all the bits are built by one company, working together. The only thing that isn't done by them is the site foundations - so you're more likely to have everything fit together properly, as the left hand knows what the right hand is doing.

Any thoughts on a yes or a no to the "big circle" (I can't think of any other way to describe it)? I would have thought it would be put in place before the arms, so maybe they're going for a design without it?

Given something needs to be bolted on to the arm by the looks of that pic, and Intamin's website doesn't show a non-"big circle" version of the ride, I'd have to assume that it comes after everything else so it's not in the way.

Does anyone know if the circle actually provides an purpose to the ride. Because from looking at the picture posted above, it seems like it's just there.

Given that Parkz has confirmed this is an Intamin Suspended Twin Hammer, and Intamin's own website only shows a version of the ride existing with the circle, you'd have to assume the circle is on the way.

Unless we're getting some kind of customised version they don't advertise anywhere.

^I think it would be great if there are two different cycles to experience for the ride, because it would also add something for kids, providing the minimal high requirement isn't too high.

The circle looks purely decorative, and I'd imagine if the circle didn't fit with the theme for doomsday, MW would have elected simply to not have it as part of the ride. It doesn't appear to serve any purposes, other than to represent the circular nature of themes (like a clock for instance) so unless MW has come up with a clever way to integrate it into the ride theme, i'd sooner they left it off.

If you look at the bottom half of the pole on each side you can see where something will connect.  If you look at the top, it looks like something will connect there also.

You could be right there is something there on the main pole. Maybe the circle will light up like green lantern sign or something

That's not really the case here though, its more like buying a kit home or importing specialised windows or heating systems. You're buying from a manufacturer that most likely doesn't have everything made in house,even though their name is on the product. Given that just about everything big and steel is made in countries like china these days, I wouldn't expect it to be shipped back, then on to australia. If you had problems, you'd probably have to go back to intamin who would then have to go to the engineering company that manufactured the part to query the problem, then wait for a reply and try and rectify the problem. It's different if you are making hundreds of the same parts, but how many of these have ever been made by intamin? It's very possible that something could slip through QA processes checking only to find it doesn't quite fit together as easily as planned. Regardless anyway, the arms are back on
 

I wonder if the clock like structure has something to do the ride probably wanting to twist the tower when its in use. The photos show the arms have big counterweights on them with the gondolas opposite, but in operation it shows the arms aren't required to be in phase (ie, opposite each other to counteract the force). Maybe it has more than just a purely cosmetic reason to make it look like a clock. Guess we will find out soon, certainly looks like there is space on the tower to bolt something. I imagine the clock part could be assembled in pieces to form a ring. Doesn't have to be hoisted up and bolted into position in one piece.
