Backwards Coasters

Featured Replies

This is topical with DC Rivals HyperCoaster around the corner, but just wondering, what coasters have people been on that go backwards for some or all of the ride? What used it most effectively?
(For simplicity, let's not include spinning coasters)

Here in Aus:

Demon
Tower of Terror / 2
Scooby Doo
Buzzsaw

Elsewhere:
Revenge of the Mummies (All)
Various Boomerangs
Stinger
Invertigo
Escape from Krypton
Montezumas Revenge
Deja Vu / Goliath
X2
V2 Vertical Velocity
Expedition Everest
Firechaser Express
Wicked Twister
Mr Freeze / Reverse Blast
Batman the Ride (SFFT)
Green Lantern (SFMM)
Superman (SFDK)
Tempesto
Full Throttle
Canopy Flyer

I think out of that entire list Canopy Flyer is the only one that you can ride backwards the whole way

Firechaser probably has the best backwards part since the set up for it is done so well thematically, with honourable mention to Hollywoods Revenge of the Mummy.
And who could forget Scooby

They're not particularly bad rides if running the newer trains, but the inversions are all a bit too rapid fire for me, so they're  a one and done.

But the inverted version is really good, and I wish more parks had them!

Everest is pretty sweet. It's gets the nod with firechaser for the best backwards bits for a reason.

Personally I hate the mummy coasters

I enjoyed the Mummy at Orlando, but I treat it as a dark ride first, coaster second.

Hollywood Dream at USJ had some trains going backwards for a while. That would give you some idea of what it would be like to ride DC Rivals backwards.

I just got back from my first trip to Japan, and unfortunately due to the rain did not get to experience the Backdrop variant of Hollywood Dream, but at least I can confirm it’s still operating as such.

I think how it’s achieved is actually quite clever, being that they have 3? trains running at a time, 2 forwards and one backwards, and two queues. They just load whichever queue for the train that is coming in next.
