  1. Jesus when did this become a pissing contest? It's a double hammer ride. Not a Star flyer, not a roller coaster (regardless of what channel 9 call it), not a dark ride, not anything else, just in case anyone didn't get the memo. Most of the budget is going to themeing, and this isn't the 'World's best' thing they were talking about. We obviously can't know what that is, but rcdb.com maybe gives some clue as to what that is, given their reliable nature, and remember they're unlikley to say 'World top 50', particularly when you're justifying the installation of a properly expensive grown up ride.

  3. Great day to visit Movieworld today, guys! Most rides have been walk on this morning, with the exception of SE which was a 30 Min wait. But the queues to pretty much everything else have been empty. Even Scooby was a walk on???

  4. Ok, grain of salt here, but have just had a chat with an employee who seemed very confident to know what's going on. Apparently yes, it's a newer version of a suspended twin hammer where apparently "the carriages spin around as well". He said the stage show building is being demolished. The coaster is aiming for a 2018 opening. There will be a shop opening selling DC villan themed merchandise (surprise surprise) and he doesn't know if they will connect the area up behind AA or not. Pretty sure he said a September opening for the new ride, even though we already knew that. Trying to remember what else he said, but yeah, that's what I remember off the top of my head. It was a pretty lengthy discussion as its a quiet day here at MW lol ?

  5. It's an Intamin Suspended Twin Hammer. No fan of the media's shoddy reporting, but do you honestly think they went and dug up footage of an obscure flat ride in Malaysia of their own choosing? Sometimes I feel these discussions go around in circles...

  6. Did anyone read what Slick said? Can't believe the ride type is still being debated and people are still saying it's coaster.

  7. So... Half of MW SuperHeroes, the other half SuperVillains?

  8. I called the other one a looping monstrosity. It's a joke of a ride in every sense. (There's like... three puns in that sentence.) From now on, articles will use the following tags: [joke] Movie World is definitely building a Superloop. [/joke] [sarcasm] Because they are such great rides. [/sarcasm] [hint] RCDB is pretty accurate. [/hint] [redherring] Look at these air conditioning repair men. [/redherring] Honestly no idea why the default limit would be 10 per day. It's now unlimited... feel free to like every post you want.

  9. Read it as parts of the ride cycle. So during the entire cycle of the ride, there are 'parts' of that cycle where you will be inverted.

  10. Just because they drive a steam train doesn't necessarily mean their way of communication is also from the same period:

  11. Maybe it broke down the day before, or the problem was found in morning checks, so they called the engineer in, and he got there early enough for the attraction to open on time. Remember, both Dreamworld and the engineer now have telephones, so even if he wasn't on site, it's plausible that they asked him to come in.

  12. Thanks Richard. I have just printed it twice. One wallet size and one that sits on my desk at work so I always have a reference to go by.

  13. I do like the Panic Clock ride Richard talked about in his article, only because it was built by Vekoma and if you look it up on YouTube it has that distinct Wipeout sound from the motors.

  14. To be honest, what do we expect from the media? I personally don't expect the Gold Coast Bulletin to write "Movie World gets brand new Intamin Suspended Twin Hammer". Circles? Why not monstrous loops? Honestly, after some thought, I think I'm a little bit excited for this themed area. While I am disappointed that so much of the physical area of the park is going to be themed after DC, I coming to terms with it and I'm slowly thinking that they're going to absolutely nail it. On that note, do we have any clue how they are actually going to theme this ride, if at all? If we just get a Twin Hammer plonked in the middle of the park I'll be disappointed, but if we get something to a similar standard to the Wipeout then I'll be very happy.

  15. Thanks OceanGirl. I can imagine how that would have worked now. Shame they ditched the pre-show though.

  16. Yep, it opened as Lethal Weapon, based on the movies of the same name and they advertised and themed it as such. You had to walk through a chinatown themed alleyway to get to it (which, as most know, is now closed off to the public) and there was LW movie posters everywhere, including a big one above the ride entrance. They played the soundtrack to the movies as background music outside. In its first few years they had a preshow where they would show you a brief 2 minute snippet of a car chase sequence in one of the movies (II, I think) and then tell you that the coaster was supposed to simulate that car chase, barrel rolls and all. However they ended up ditching the pre-show in the end and just ran people straight through from queue to coaster. The theming of the coaster area was all "ghetto" city themed as well, complete with background audio of barking dogs and distant police sirens & incident reports etc. So they definitely did pull it off quite well in the end, even if it was an unlikely movie series to base a rollercoaster on.

  17. The Lethal Weapon rollercoaster managed to pull that off without any real dramas, let alone the many others out there which are movie themed

  18. OMG Push you make my head hurt. Perhaps they can build the world's best museum on monorail technology from the 80s? For the rest of us we know it's a coaster, because the DA is in for a coaster. As for the studios, don't worry about the productions, they come and go and even a 'permanent fence' being built and removed is small change for a major film budget. For all we know the fences are to keep the film academy peeps out!! The outdoor tank usually films at night if sound is an issue, because as someone mentioned the park and M1 noise are significant anyway. However most shots done there are big exteriors and sound isn't a focus.

  19. So what you're saying is for the coaster to be considered one of the world's best, ....... it has to be one of the world's best....

  22. Ah the good old staff member that just happened to be in the park, just happened to know all the plans and just happened to feel like blabbing everything to a punter. Always take that info with a healthy dose of dippin dots.

  23. Haha @Richard, you just earnt yourself a like Thanks for that Yeah, he said they were getting rid of it because it hasn't been used for so long and they don't have any future plans to utilise it... I said that was a shame if that is true, as shows absorb large portions of crowd on busy days. Heaven knows that's one aspect that MW really need to work on atm! But yeah, obviously this is just staff hear/say, so I wouldn't take it too seriously, despite the fact he did appear to know what he was talking about. I guess we shall have to wait and see.... Uhm.... they googled "monstrous looping ride" and went with the first result that came up? Or maybe they keep a close eye on what we discuss/speculate on here lol

  24. No way I'd go on that! Hopefully it will at least shorten the queues for the things I do want to go on.

  26. Exactly my thoughts too. I'd like your post to show my agreement Skeet, but I've apparently reached my limit of 10 likes per day lol. All anyone can do right now is speculate, which is exactly what we are doing. If anyone has concluded that they know exactly what's going in based on what evidence there is (media not included) then that's great. But I like to keep my options open until there is official confirmation. Am at MW right now, the dividers around the new area are pretty tightly sealed. Stood on a box to see over it and yeh, not really much to see atm. Just flattened land and a couple of shovels still at it around the old Santa house.

  27. The ride type is decades old. That is my disappointment.

  28. Yeah I read it. Movieworld haven't officially confirmed anything though, and we all know how reliable the media is lol.

  29. Channel 9 showed at least ten solid seconds of twin hammer footage. How less subtle does literally every reputable news source (Parkz & OurWorlds included) need to be about what ride is coming?

  30. I'd say it would be April again this year, and I'm fairly sure last hear they announced dates in the 2nd week of March. So not long now.
