even if that is the case, it doesn't explain why it wasn't done earlier to be ready for now

i mean that’s true but businesses do tend to hire seasonals (especially for summer) around the time holidays do start, so it could explain it. either way, businesses are going to make financially smart decisions.

Visited WWW yesterday for the first time since 2010! Wow where has the time gone?    I think it was definitely a wise choice to focus on DW first, it was in a much worse state and WWW although

It's probably staff costs and keeping the wage bill low.

I feel like we've pretty much been saying this for a while. they might be missing some business, but how much would have contributed towards extra revenue if many of those folk are passholders anyway? Pool and plant operating costs go up, staff costs go up. you need more cleaners, more gate staff, more F&B and Retail staff, plus the lifeguards and other team members that go with operating the park 7 days a week. On days where attendance isn't assured, that's expensive.

I think they've taken the view that they can afford to not compete with WNW in the offseason, and while the school dates are a bit of a misstep, overall, there is no guarantee they'd make money this week opening the park up, once all costs are accounted for.

I think they've erred a little here by just taking the generic "public school finishing date" as their yardstick for opening 7 day operations.

I agree with you but

+ I went a few weeks ago and I couldn't find a gate to DW.  I asked a staff member and that person said I was to enter DW through DW's entrance.

The arcade should have been moved and made the gateway between the parks from the beginning of time.   Shared assets @DaptoFunlandGuy  😉  (no extra staff, double the profits)

In the Dane Podcast, CEO Greg Yong confirmed that WWW is absolutely crucial, and that they have many ideas on what their next step is - "it will get it's due attention in a little while" but "need to find a balance in what they can economically do" so they are prioritising "where they can deliver the most value".

Dreamworld has had a waterpark as far back as 1983. Back then they ran seasonally as well, albeit without a separate gate and ticketing.

The two gates have always operated similarly to how they do today, albeit a return to seasonal operations.

You really seem like you have a bee in your bonnet about this. Greg's words are quite telling "balance in what they can economically do" and we can all bang on the table and demand they open 7 days a week, or employ another CEO to run the water park, or build new attractions at the same time as the dry park (village has historically cycled new attractions to its three parks and rarely opens new attractions in multiple parks at the same time either) but if they do all that and go broke before it's financially sustainable to do then its all gone and turned into housing development.

Greg's said water parks are extremely hard to run.  (work differently to a theme park) So you get somebody in who knows how to successfully run a water park.  You give that person the keys and they can 100% focus on the park.  If you need to add a power point to your home you call a electrician in to and you don't do it yourself.  You don't tell the electrician how to wire the power point.

They have put WWW on life support.

I disagree. They've put it in a holding pattern and are concentrating on their flagship operation before distracting themselves with other factors.

He did say that - With some authority I would suggest, given he held executive level responsibilities for both WNW GC and Sydney, as well as the foreign waterparks for a period of time. I've not seen anything in his history that suggests he doesn't know how to successfully run a water park.

You can't give someone the keys and let them have at it. Their desires and ideas are going to be competing with the desires and ideas over at Dreamworld for the same capital to implement them. You're taking a very small bucket of money and tipping it into two even smaller buckets.

If they succeed over at Dreamworld, there's going to be many buckets to share with the waterpark. if they fail, the waterpark is dead too. But nobody is  going to be building this company up with waterslides.

If you need to run a theme park group, you call a guy who knows how to run theme park groups and you let him run the theme park group. You don't go on a forum and tell him how to run it.

Sydney was a flop.  (Don't even know why you would bring that up in defence)

Cade's County was already a successful water park and all Village need to do is occasionally upgrade the fleet and change the oil.

Probably the worst attempt of a mic drop.

(you are on here everyday with ideas & thoughts)🤦‍♂️

The truth is, this isn't about your guy.

I want somebody that can give WWW 100% attention, something you can't do if you're also running DW.

They probably want that too, but considering at a higher level they decided to change the park to only be operational seasonally, it doesn't make sense to have someone who is purely in charge on running WWW.

Yes, they could change the park back to being open all year round, but right now for Coast Entertainment it doesn't really make sense to have it open during the Winter. They wouldn't be running the park at a profit if that was the case. I would argue it should definitely be open more than it is, but closing after Easter and reopening in September makes sense (just look how quiet WnW can be during the Winter).

As said in the interview, WWW's time will come, but right now it just isn't the focus. Yes the focus can be split accordingly, but to Dapto's point...

You can tell I’m not a usual Thursday visitor to DW, as only just became aware whilst here that the park closes at 4pm. Thought it was 5pm every day.

That’s even more ridiculous than not having WWW open. The park is as busy today as a typical off-peak weekend

Perhaps just a short memory. They've had limited hours in their "off peak" times for quite some time. If I were a theme park social media employee, i'd tell you to 'make sure you check the website before visiting!'

MDMC open 11-4

All of ABC4Kids Land closes at 3:30, including weekends

90% of Dreamworks closing at 4 every day

That was a long… time ago. But yes I clearly had overlooked it. And yes, onus is on me to check hours - but for all the reasons we say WWW should be open, DW should be open until 5

It’s simple economics mate. Would you invest $1 on something that will give you $1.20 return or something that will give you $3 return?

WWW will get the attention it deserves, neither DW or WWW is in a place right now to prioritise WWW over DW.

You're pulling numbers out of the air again.  A real number is my shares are down to .45c and it's been 8 years.

And that's totally because of WhiteWater World not getting the attention it deserves, and not because of Covid and the sale of Main Event
