Sea World Monorail Permanent Closure

Thanks for sharing @Noll_57 as per usual, the GCB are factually off the mark. Visiting SW in the past few weeks, I'm happy to report that not only most, if not all of the Monorail infrastructure (track and trains included) aren't removed, yet continue to remain (however mothballed), SBNO.

Maybe I didn't explore enough of the Park to notice, but from what I could see, all Park Stations remain, with train (at least 1 near Shark Bay) remains as does all track throughout the park, including sections under the Plaza area.

From what I can see, the only thing done to the track is the addition of anti-bird spikes.

Is it just me or does all this seem like such an incredibly shithouse waste of a great asset? Surely, with relatively minimal engineering, modest investment & some necessary technical, safety and comfort upgrades, these things could be returned to modern day operations for millions to enjoy for many more years to come. Sadly, the longer this is all left sitting, the harder it is to justify any such return.

The same goes for the Sky cable car ride. Another great bird's eye view transport attraction - one who's next nearest neighbour is all the way up near Cairns (Kuranda).. Albeit, the SW system was far less complex than what they have.

SeaWorld's greatest feature is entirely in its natural beauty; the spectacular views across the GC Broadwater, within the Park itself, the High rises of the greater Surfers Skyline, Mountains, Ocean and beyond. Leaving clear reminders of itge Park's past with stations almost remaining fully intact just gives People false hope - but worst of all - it shows a Jokers hand of dirty echoes from a past built on broken promises; that lost credibility to what might still be, or could have been, but never was..

For some of us silly enough to still dream, I'm happy to keep holding on to hope. So long as the Trident stands, anything is possible right?😊

The monorail track has been completely removed from the eastern boundary and over the carpark

This thread has sufficient evidence that the circuit has been demolished to a point that it is unfeasible to return to operation.

While large sections remain, these are mostly in landlocked parts of the park that are difficult to access with heavy machinery without impacting on daily operations. The bones remaining will stay where they are until Sea World needs the space for another purpose, just as Arkham remained SBNO until it was time for WOZ.

Also, it's pretty obvious outside the park - here is streetview from September 2024 compared to August 2025

Well you got me good there @DaptoFunlandGuy, thanks for clarifying!😆

Theme Park nut or not, it's interesting how many of us notice those SBNO things (like sections of monorail track, stations, trains, covered up cable car station etc) while looking straight through what's now completely gone - such as all the removed track out front, so thanks for pointing out the obvious! oops🤭

Doesn't change the fact that SW needs a transportation attraction. One that not only serves visitors staying at the SW Resort, connecting the front to the back of a very long Park while taking advantage of those breathtaking views.

Modern day Cable 🚡 rides purpose built to conditions, some even navigate around a twisting circuit, are safely enclosed, wheelchair accessible, have ventilated cabins, with clear floors, sometimes with AC that's charged back up as they roll through the stations.

It’s pretty sad that a park that used to have 3 separate transport rides now has none. But considering the park desperately needs a new attraction, I think constructing a new transport ride (like a cable car) should be Sea World’s next big investment.

Sea World can’t even afford to have a show on the lake, they ain’t going to be making any investments for a while

I don't think that's accurate. BGH is definitely tightening the purse strings but that doesn't mean capital investment is off the table - they'll do what they need to do to get good value out of a sale. If sea world is undervalued because of the lack of attractions, they'll look to bolster the line up.

Capital investment on an asset is not the same as non-capital expenses to fund the costs of an ongoing show.

Does that mean I think SW is getting a new attraction real soon? No. but I wouldn't write it off entirely.
