You’ll find the heart of Australia here in WILD with Australian Geographic, where native animals and natural landscapes come alive. We’ve proudly partnered with Australian Geographic to celebrate conservation, education, and the animals that make Australia unique.

The former theatre is also returning with a new cinematic experience by Australian Geographic called 'Our Country'.

It's great to see this area of the park getting some love and hopefully it leads to more refurbishments and improvements. They have been improved Goldie's exhibit recently and the addition of the new Bilby house a couple years ago were great. I know recently the damaged netting over the former aviary has been removed, so giving areas like this some attention to improve the animal and guest experience would be great to see.

Kinda weird that Sea World’s wild expansion ended up at a different park 10 years after it was meant to open!

@Ashley Jeffery I asked park management about the shows removal and whether it would ever return and it won’t. It was very very expensive to run because of the care and requirements for the sheep. And when the park is trying to reduce overheads (while not compromising the guest experience), we won’t be something like that return.

The difference though is, despite the sheep shearing being cheaper than the others, it likely isn't popular enough to justify the costs unlike the others.

Let's say the tiger maintenance costs $750,000 a year and gets 500,000 visitors, that is $1.50 per visitor. But if the sheep shearing show costs $250,000 to run and only gets 100,000 visitors, then that is $2.50 per visitor. The tigers are therefore more value for money than the sheep shearing show, despite costing more.

Let’s hope they finally fixed the waterfall above the crocs and in the cassowary enclosure to coincide with this launch… although I’m not expecting it.

I also saw pictures of new glass/perspex viewing windows being installed between the cassowary and Roos enclosure, are these works complete and do we know what animal this was for?

Very keen to see if this is just a reopening of the theatre, and a few signs rebranded or if a little more effort has been put in…

Pretty sure that is all it is for now. There hasn’t been significant downtime of any of the enclosures etc to enable any large scale changes, nor is it really needed.

I assume NatGeo is in sponsorship for the exhibits. its a good partnership and makes sense. Might even contribute a little more to the park's bottom line and opex.

TBH i'm surprised more attractions don't carry sponsorship - many overseas parks do.

"Presented by Pepsi" and so on.

I don't know if every sign has been replaced yet because the image I posted was from the school across the road who were invited for the opening.

When DW first opened, every ride had a sponsorship.

Small point, but it's the Australian Geographic Society - publishing Australian Geographic magazine.

NatGeo is National Geograpic, magazine and Cable TV channel - now (partially) owned by Disney.

Similar organisations, easily confused.  But it's a good fit for Dreamworld and will probably make it a lot easier for them to build out educational experiences, since Aus Geo has the magazine/Awards and is associated with Northern Pictures so they effectively have a production arm to lean on.

I'm glad they don't. Can you imagine if the corperate overlords made them say the full name everytime they said the name? "Justice League: Alien Invasion 3D presented by Village Roadshow Themeparks" would have gotten older than Benjamin Button alot quicker.

Yeah they don't say it.

Show venues typically would include announced sponsorships before \ after the show, but attractions would just be branded.

Think the Pepsi Big One at Blackpool.

It can be done tastefully and very unobtrusively while still getting the brand some exposure and the park some funds... I skimmed around for a few examples from the big majors to show what I mean

Quiz - Who Sponsors Disney - Answers - AllEars.NetRevenge of the Mummy - theStudioTour.comScentsy logo added to Dumbo attraction as part of 'Smellephants on Parade' coming to Fantasyland at Magic KingdomCoaster Trips: 2006: Six Flags New England

Bonus points if the sponsor can be integrated into the ride in a clever way - like a tea company sponsoring a teacup rideTetley tea cup ride Thorpe park - YouTube

So some examples I can think of locally:

  • Murrisippi Motors, presented by Ampol
  • Gold Coaster, presented by City of Gold Coast \ Gold Coast Tourism board
  • TailSpin, presented by Virgin Australia
  • Jet Rescue, presented by Lifesavers
  • Battle Boats, presented by SuperSoaker
  • The Rip, presented by RipCurl
  • Superman Escape, presented by Translink
  • Roxy Theatre, presented by Event Cinemas (i'm aware village is part owner)
  • Steel Taipan, presented by BHP Australia
  • Wild West Falls, presented by Old El Paso

While related sponsors are great, generic corporates with big pockets love to stick their brand on things too. Coca Cola, Samsung, Woolworths. As long as it's not a ridiculous branding, (please don't wrap the coaster trains) and it's mutually beneficial, I don't see any reason why we can't see sponsorship across the parks.

Its been done before here on the Gold Coast. Sea World was full of sponsorships. Anyone remember Bermuda Triangle?

It says Paul/Norco there, but I have a memory of it being sponsored by Banana Boat, but maybe that was another ride in the park.

Or the Sky High Skyway sponsored by Qantas.

All of the Gold Coast parks used to have a lot of attraction sponsorships through the 80s to 00s, it’s become a less common thing in reverent years. The only recent one that comes to mind if Sky Voyager was sponsored by Experience Oz, but was removed last year (?)
