Wizard of Oz - Movie World Arkham Asylum Replacement

Recommended Posts

The Gold Coast’s biggest new theme park attraction in years is on track to open by Christmas in the latest pitch to lure domestic and international visitors back to the city.

Construction is in full swing of the “world-first” $50m Wizard of Oz precinct at Warner Bros Movie World at Oxenford, with Village Roadshow bosses tipping the family friendly multi-ride area will take the city down the yellow brick road of prosperity.

Village chief operating officer Bikash Randhawa said it would be able to accommodate more than 2000 people every hour.

“This is something that has never been done before, so the beauty of this attraction is that everything has had to be built from scratch.

“There were numerous people from Warner Brothers Discovery, our thematic team and our internal teams who had to create every square inch of this area from nothing.

“What we’ve achieved here, especially with all the talent and the skill set coming out of Gold Coast, and to be able to do something that has not been done anywhere in the entire world is a big tick for tourism, and a big tick for the city of Gold Coast.

“Theme parks drive visitation and I believe this will be something that is so iconic that, for years and years to come, we’ll have families come here with mums, dads and kids, who will one day bring their own children, making it a generational piece.”

The attraction was first announced in July 2022.

It will have two family-friendly rides, including a multi-launch coaster, capable of reaching speeds of almost 70km/hr around a 454m track and a racing coaster where thrill seekers will travel simultaneously on two 220m tracks reaching speeds of up to 58km/hr.

It follows the recent opening of it's The Flash Speed Force ride at Easter.

The Wizard of Oz precinct is being built on the former location of the Arkham Asylum roller coaster, which was originally known as the Lethal Weapon ride.

Did I miss the part where the suspended family coaster was having multiple launches?

Except, you know, the giant Arkham\Lethal building that they're reusing for the emerald city...

Yeah. A stripped out shed forms such an integral part of the new themed land that it really should have been bulldozed and built a new just so that it could be grammatically accurate to all the anoraks of the world.

No one is saying that. Pretty sure Dapto is referring to the fact Bikash has a habit of going a little overboard with his promotion of things to the point of it being a little fanciful and over-embellished. Everything is always “the first” of its kind, which when it impacts the overall experience is fine “first triple launch coaster!” for example. But “first time we’ve built a new land from the ground up?” Not a selling point anyone really gives two hoots over, so why embellish the truth ?

Precisely. I think that we're so used to calling out false or 'stretched truth' statements in their media releases now its just second nature.

Also, they still haven't explained what a "multi-type" coaster is either.

My interpretation of “Never been done before” was related to The Wizard of Oz being created into a theme park as its own land.

I’m just enjoying all the bts content we are getting out of the park, which is awesome! Hopefully we see this continue with Scooby Doo’s refurb.

Yeah look, that would be a fair interpretation, if it wasn't for the fact that that also isn't a 'never been done before' thing either.

I've been saying this since the Flash BTS content started to release. I think their media team have really lifted their game to new heights (or gotten fresh blood?) and i'm super keen to see Village continue to push out their great insights into new constructions and other activities going on behind the scenes.

But that doesn't mean i'm not going to call out bullshit from the C-suite.

I just noticed looking at the concept art it does look like they are keeping the old show building that AA was using, definitely an interesting choice to not turn it into a backdrop. Especially if this is how it turns out

Looks like MW is winning the race at the moment, this is starting to look pretty close to being physically complete. Wonder how far behind Dreamworld is?

Wish we had a good aerial to compare ‘em proper, cause it does seem like DW is comparatively behind, but that may just be ‘cause we are only getting certain obscured angles of the WoO site where the most progress is being made.

Is Kansco a new thing or extracted from Wizard of Oz lore?

Seems like a new brand they’ve made up for the tractors.

Perhaps you should jump on Flash or Rivals and check it out? I'm sure you'd get a pretty decent view from there.

Regardless, they're already installing trains on the track, I don't imagine they'd be doing that if they weren't close to being finished in at least the ride envelopes?

DW don't seem close to being ready for this step.

Been meaning to go out for that reason, Rivals has a great overhead if you turn around on the lift (done it a few times), but finding motivation to travel to the parks just to hop on Rivals is hard

True, but Kansas Twister is 1 of 2 (or 2 of 3) coasters in the ‘precinct’, and the one with much less complicated clearance envelopes/work to be done within its ride area in comparison to FotWW & JuR.

MW has 3 coasters to commission, where DW has one.  It's a no brainer, MW requires more time to get 3 coasters up to speed.  It was always on the cards MW's testing would start before DW.

Based off the latest NearMap shots, the Kansas Twister has a far larger, and imo more complicated ride envelope. FOTWW is far more contained than the other.

By that logic, it's also had 3 coasters to build in that same time.

More complicated than FotWW, or than JuR? 'Cause both FotWW and KT's ride envelopes are mostly just affected by their ride buildings, and out of the 2, FotWW seems to have the simpler (and earlier completed) building. JuR, however, is intertwined with pathways & Murrisippi Motors, as well as having a more complicated building than both of them.

Construction at MW stared well before Jungle Rush, so want you are saying is trash.

For clarity, I was comparing just Twister and Wicked Witch. Not JuR.

Of course, but both have the same advertised opening time. This whole discussion was who would open first, and on time. So thank you for confirming what I was saying.
