King Claw - Larger Replacement Intamin Gyro Swing for Dreamworld

Featured Replies

I'm definitely in the 'gold coaster parts' camp. the colour matches the track perfectly and it's in the right spot.

It could be claw parts though - nothing wrong with getting them in early.

As for payment - while I have no inside knowledge of this transaction, in some cases, rides aren't paid for prior to opening at all - sometimes they're "leased" from the manufacturer or under some sort of 'buy now, pay later' arrangement (they should be careful, their bank might deny their home loan!).

If I remember correctly DC Rivals was initially done under this kind of arrangement but was quickly paid back not long after opening. So it could be paid in full, or in part, or not at all, or only 'leased' - nobody here knows!

King Claw went out for tender today.  Images from public tender.

The accounts when released for year end will tell us more on that but you would be not be a good treasurer of a company if you paid for a product not received / not close to use  in full .
if the ride companies involved in commissioning then I doubt they get fully paid until it’s done.

I look forward to seeing end of year accounts when published to show this if you need.

End of financial year results won’t break down capex expenditures into individual projects, so they won’t. Anything spent on King Claw pre-June 30 will be lumped in with the $$ spent on Rivertown in the back end of 24 (and this year too).

Accounts are semi annual produced so we will have decembers .

in the notes to financial accounts you will see acquisition of  plant and equipment in segment information . It will give you a good idea if  track over periods of time.

there is also a breakdown of pp&e in the notes that break out what’s construction in progress vs what’s not so can split it out . It’s under major rides and attractions column to breakout in more detail .

This is what happens in new ride discussions between announcement phase and ground breaking.

It doesn't matter, but discussion really gets into the weeds and nitty gritty when there's nothing new to talk about.

Yeah or we can talk about new ride signs if they appear lol 😂

After being trapped on Claw for 25mins in monsoon rain tonight - I can safely say King Claw cannot come soon enough…

The poor old girl got pushed to the limit last night… don’t think I saw an empty seat on it all night.

Its pretty common for specialist equipment (like that involved in attractions and theming) to have to be paid for 100% upfront.
Suppliers don’t want to be left holding the bag when the builder you hired goes bust all of a sudden (and that is usually who is buying).
For the ride itself you’re likely looking at a portion when ordered, a portion when it arrives onsite and the rest when handed over.

Isn't KC aquatic themed anyway? Think of it as live precursor theming.

I'm glad my ticket turned into a $10.00 donation to DW and I decided not to go.  Being in that weather at a theme park, is not my idea of fun.

https://www.amusement-rides.com/product/gyro-swing-intamin - Looks as though Claw might possibly be for sale? I know the pictures are of the bigger model but all the stats match up to The Claw. They do have it listed as a 2005 model though (Claw was 2004). Maelstrom opened in 2002 and is still operating and the only other 32 seater Gyro Swing is Goliath at Adventure World.

Very interested to see if the ride ends up being sold to another park...

LPM should have some interest they are one of few parks here that doesn’t have a pendulum ride of any sort. They’ve got space for this iirc. Would love to see Claw remain on our shores

isn't Luna Park Melbourne like, ultra landlocked by the scenic coaster? Claw would not even fit half the park in that case.

Keep an eye out for Gumbaya… would fit nicely next to BuzzSaw/Project Zero

I thought the same thing at first, but Gumbuya already has The Rebel which is one of the most intense flat rides in the country. The park doesn’t need two big swing rides and as great as The Claw is, replacing Rebel with it would be a big downgrade IMHO. It definitely wouldn’t fit in LPM and Funfields already have The Voodoo, so if it was to end up in a Victorian park, I think Adventure Park Geelong would benefit from it the most. APG needs a standout attraction and this would absolutely fit the bill. Plus there’s plenty of room for it as the park has a lot of excess land. Though I’m not sure how feasible this is, it would be great to continue the tradition of Victoria’s parks being the dumping ground for the GC’s old rides.

It’s ultra landlocked yes but there’s heaps of old flats they have they could pull down for it if they wanted to

The ex carny power surge and Frankenstein’s monster enterprise are some of them

Went today, temporary fencing all up, all que lines have been taken down, a lot of the “claw” post were removed, already quite a bit has been done. Great to see.

Jungle Rush was back to 2 trains, operations were smooth.
