Dreamworld General Improvments 2025

Featured Replies

Ocean Parade and Rocky Hollow are the really the largest problems with Dreamworld as of now so I hope they can get around to them and try make it less of a hodgepodge and dead end after Lost Mine Mayhem.

I hope this does what they want it to do and everyone benefits. I saw the announcement yesterday and it definitely made me consider dreamworld passes again.

As an aside - not my main takeaway and I don't want to shit on the concept at announcement but it gives me village key vibes.

The difference is village key you had to pay for, while DW Plus is just a marketing strategy for provide extra benefits.

When I first saw the announcement I did think it was another add on for pass holders, but then realised it’s not the case.

They are also marketing it as +Plus, which I read as Plus Plus!

I'd say it's more like the membership perks VRTP had/has.

While I appreciate the +Plus idea, I believe Dreamworld still lags behind in terms of rides and experiences. Their focus should remain on their ride lineup, especially as many of their current rides are ageing/ugly and will soon need replacement.

A discount is welcome, but having more than four decent thrill rides is even better. I don’t want them to jeopardise their profitability by focusing too heavily on discounts, especially since they haven’t made a profit since 2016. I haven’t been to the park since January however when I was there I could see that the park already lacks sufficient stores, quick-service food options and places to spend money. Discounting some of their only revenue streams feels odd.

Parks like Movie World, Universal and Disney have always had places to spend money within easy reach or in a direct line of sight. Dreamworld doesn’t, and their lineup is already weak, and has been since the removal of Wipeout, TOT, Log Ride, TRRR, Buzzsaw and Big Red Car.

Some of these rides really bolstered the lineup, and now Dreamworld only has one major thrill coaster worth a trip. There are no water rides, noteworthy dark rides or supporting thrill coasters to complement the existing ones. ST is a good ride, but it needs stronger theming or another standout attraction to compete with SE, DC, GL and Leviathan.

There’s more to theme parks than rides and attractions, and Dreamworld lacks any noteworthy shows like Waterworld or Stunt Driver.

We've discussed this ad nauseum, but annual passholders are the least likely to spend in park on every visit. Providing incentives that encourage spending, while maintaining a margin on those purchases, actually increases your revenue.

Please don't put MW in the same group as Universal or Disney.

As for your claim - I disagree. None of those three companies have what you claim. I can think of multiple places across 6 Disney parks i've visited, and 4 Universal parks that don't have money makers within easy reach \ line of sight. MW has multiple spots like this including Oz courtyard, superman's courtyard, and the entirety of West's precinct, which for the size of the park, is pretty significant.

You're not wrong about the lineup, nad they could do with more - but the visitation needs to continue for them to afford more installations - and seeing them market this sort of thing to not only increase the perceived value of an annual pass, but also encourage the lower in-park spenders to spend more money each visit, is a clear pathway towards improving the bottom line to a point where they can afford their next attraction.

annual passholders

It just feels like they are begging or needing to persuade people to make purchases, even if they are passholders I believe that in the design phase of new lands and changes they need to make monetisation a priority, like the photo opportunity near the King Claw, that should have been a quick service outlet (like the quick service places in SNW at Epic Universe) where they could have put stuff like foods or an iconic ocean parade snack (like butter beer etc) to encourage spending as it’s a convenient place rather then trying to convince people to spend through different promotions and discounts, I believe DW should build more shops and experiences in the park as they also removed the one in Dreamworks kids land and didn’t end up replacing it with anything.

Also I was talking about Dreamworld in particular as iirc profit from 2024 was only a thing as they sold the arcade business in the USA.

I agree with both parties. I think the discounting is great to attract more spending from annual pass holders. Stuff like discounting the tailspin definitely makes me want to spend the $17.5 for my partner and I to go on it compared to the $35. It feels like better value for money. I also agree with the more Quick Service establishments. I visited USJ this week and the amount of money consistently being spent on turkey legs (Jurassic world) and Butter Beer (HP) was insane. Multiple kiosks with lines. Dreamworld definitely needs to get on line with this in the ocean parade and Rivertown areas. Ocean Parade could be something simple like a bright blue lagoon frappe. Rivertown can lean into the jungle theme for a food item (like a chicken leg or something else, I’m not creative.) Something quick and easy to snack on that isn’t popcorn or churros is needed.

That’s the problem with using a cheap pass just to get people through the gate. You’re targeting the wrong market if people only come because the ticket is cheap.

The people who are attracted by discounted pass are often the same people who are reluctant to spend money once they’re inside. A theme park makes its real money from what visitors spend after they enter.

Anyone who goes on holiday know, your wallet tends to loosen when you’re in holiday mode. The key is getting the right customers through the gate, not simply getting as many people through as cheaply as possible.

A cheap ticket fills the park, but if those visitors don’t spend once inside, you’ve created crowds without creating revenue.

I don't disagree with the quick service suggestions - popcorn and churros are easy and keep costs down. Doing a chicken or turkey leg is hard without sales volume and Dreamworld just can't guarantee that. If you don't hit your sales, you end up bleeding money in wasted product and unnecessary labour.

Most of the successful 'cult snacks' in parks today are associated with something bigger. Like Dole Whip, or Butterbeer. The turkey legs only debuted in Disney World in 1989 inside of Frontierland, but the current sales you're seeing in USJ are built on years of corporate american cultism, established trends and refined methods.

Dreamworld can't afford that level of investment, and coming up with their own signature food item from scratch without some sort of corporate tie-in isn't likely to take off in a real, profit making way. That sort of thing has to grow organically.

50-80% of Disneyland guests are locals and annual passholders. It would be foolish to ignore things that increase the spend in that demographic.
The Coast Entertainment 2025 annual report actually calls out this strategy quite specifically:

Tourism dependency

The Group is heavily reliant on inbound visitation from interstate and international markets. Factors such as exchange rate movements, airline capacity, fuel prices, travel restrictions and global or regional instability can materially reduce tourism flows to Queensland. A downturn in tourist visitation to the Gold Coast could lead to lower attendance in our venues, reduced per capita spend and greater revenue volatility. The Group mitigates this through diversified source markets (including a focus on strengthening local visitation), targeted marketing, partnerships with airlines and tourism bodies and flexible promotional and pricing strategies responsive to changing conditions.

Put simply - this strategy is a choice.

If they had kept with the Dreamworks IP they could have easily implemented cult classic type quick service however also whenever Dreamworld focuses on passholders normally it signifies that there is nothing major in the pipeline, so now I am more convinced that Motocoaster will be a simple repaint and possibly a new theme,

I know they are wanting to make hotels and so I will assume that a lot of focus will be put on that over the next few years however Dreamworld still has major gaps in its line up currently and as many have noted on Facebook there just isn’t enough to justify spending more then one day at the park.

IMO dreamworld is not got far to go, they have been on a winning streak for a while however I think what’s missing in their lineup is one more signature coaster (even just a smaller version of Bakunawa where TOT was would be good), a filler coaster (in the same vein as JR or Buzzsaw) a family dark ride / boat ride (to kill two birds with one stone) more in park experiences such as stronger IP, shops, characters show etc.

they aren’t far away however they just need to catch up to what the offerings were a few years ago.

Yeah, I think that’s the most likely outcome, which is a shame, but at least having something open in that space will help boost the lineup and assist in making the park feel somewhat whole again (plus the presentation and overall ride experience will almost certainly be an improvement over what it was originally). Having a ride in a prime location be SBNO for so long is a terrible look for a park that was previously known for letting old attractions rot away in plain sight for decades.

While I think the park’s current lineup is a lot stronger with the recent additions of Rivertown and King Claw, there’s no denying it still desperately needs at least one more major attraction (either a signature thrill coaster or a dark ride).

I think the perfect ride for Dreamworld to invest in at this point is a Mack Rocking Boat. It essentially ticks both the dark ride and water ride requirements in one, especially if indoors like Dollywood’s new installation. It’s also an incredibly unique attraction that’s unlike anything else in Australia. The only trouble is I doubt the park is too keen on looking at another water attraction at this point.

From what I understand, Dreamworld didn’t have much of a choice. Dreamworks weren’t going to let them renew the license no matter what.

That’s a shame as it was one of the strongest themed lands in Australia at the time compared to what it is now

Very much what I heard, Universal (the new owners of Dreamworks since the initial agreement) gave them a lot of grief with Trolls Village too.

My reading of the +Plus program is that it's not really designed to just increase park spend, but to entice pass holders back into the park for new experiences. Some of those will be discounts, but others will just be perks and benefits.

I personally have advocated for DW need to update their sipper cup program to include the themed drink bottles. People will collect the drink bottles on various visits if they can use them with the unlimited soft drink offer, and they're a better investment than a sipper cup because you can actually use it outside of the park.

At the end of the day, this is just new marketing for the pass perks.

I suspect that Dreamworld will begin to phase these '+plus' perks out of the $99 pass sales and introduce a two-tier all worlds annual pass, one being a more budget one (excluding, '+plus'), and an option including the '+plus' perks, or an even cheaper Dreamworld Annual Pass, without '+plus'.

As of the moment, the two offerings include '+plus'.

Nah, Dreamworld already had passholder discounts on food and merch, so the VRTP perks was just them catching up to DW. Plus is DW pulling ahead again

I meant that portal you could log into that also gave you discounts on Redballoon, Sixt, Cinemas etc.

In the Lost Mine Mayhem announcement, Greg and Dreamworld as a whole made a big deal about their effort to increase ride efficiencies, today when I was in the park I noticed some rides had new lose items polices.

Is this a thing others have noticed, or am I just reading too far into changed loose item polices. If they have then that is great, could we finally see a timeline where I could wear my glasses on Jungle Rush, Steel Taipan and others?

What are the new polices? You mean they're more lenient? That would be nice! Though from my understanding being at the media event, the talk about ride efficiency was more about Lost Mine Mayhem being faster in comparison to Motocoaster's notorious slowness in loading.

Yes it appears that they are relaxing some of the loose item polices, I went on Sky Voyager as I wanted to ride the new Niagara Falls show and they have relaxed the polices there around loose items, I was able to record the whole ride experience.

I have only recently moved up to the Gold Coast last month so I’m not sure if these are changed polices or if anything has changed, however the video in that room said no loose items, but when I went in the staff didn’t seem to care about loose items and told people they can keep their phones with them.

That’s kind of surprising and feels like it’s more that the staff didn’t care and not a new policy. Happy to be wrong. But for this ride in particular, people getting their bright screen phones out would distract other rides and take away from the experience
