the queue building didn’t have walls for years, it use to be plain black walls just before it closed. it also looks like they’ve gone a different design from when the original walls before they got torn down, the smoke in the fountain is a nice touch.

Yeah the old walls were a foam molded product that didn't meet fire performance standards like the internals of the ride and were removed. The new walls do look mostly 2d flats with the embellishments around the screen and props.

Smoke in the fountain was always there, just low performance IRL. The images have either done a long exposure which has exaggerated the fog, or they've improved \ upgraded the device responsible.

Oh, sorry - i'll speak slower for you. Too many people in the park, not enough rides operating, not enough rides operating at full capacity, not enough staff to operate the rides effectively, poo

I was cautiously optimistic of the ride returning to the opening (of the ride) standard when this was announced, but after Oz and various visible maintenance/upkeep issues around the park I don’t have

With the recent glues on MovieWorlds socials and all pointing to December 8, could today be a soft opening or more just an opening announcement?

The clues were announcing there is going to be an announcement.    It's an announcement you make when you have nothing really going on.  A bit like the the announcement about the Superman queue.

Not long exposure ;)

Queue looks nice. Hoping there's a single rider line

The indoor queue looks amazing!

However in my view, nothing quite embodies immersion like being bombarded with HBO Max ads while queuing for an hour for one of Australia’s most “iconic” rides…

might be worth the trade off for the extra fountains and props, however for a park that’s build so much hype I would prefer no ads

You’d most likely only see the ad every time the movie ends and resets back to the beginning so you’d see it a max of 3-4 times in line accounting for school holiday crowds. I don’t think it’s fair to call it a bombardment of ads for HBO Max, at least compared to whats seen on the screens in the station of DCR where it’s ads are present 95% of the time.

The video in the reply above yours shows fast track, and what appears to be general standby.

There's no way you'd fit single rider up that corridor - and they're certainly not going to prioritise capacity over making money off queue jump passes.

It's been said it's just the beginning of the video, and if that's the case i'm not against it - you can't skip credits on stuff like that - but even if it isn't, i'd be totally ok if they'd worked out a sponsorship deal for it.

In my view, watching what I assume is a 'making of' \ 'behind the scenes' video while standing in a queueline, even without HBO branding - isn't quite the embodiment of 'immersion'. If you want immersion in a queue line, check out WOZ or Jungle Rush, because it isn't projector screens playing movie clips.

They've had literal years to come up with a relaunch campaign and these videos just feel a bit flat. There's no excitement here.

Did you just describe pretty much all village marketing of the last several years

Will it continue operation into White Christmas or will it close at 5, the million dollar question.

Surely thats pr suicide if you advertise the 14th but close it at 5

I also remember back in the day that scooby had to close early for fright nights as the brakes all had to be checked again before night running hopefully the new systems mean thats no longer the case

The 8th was the original intended opening date but it got pushed back.

I'm pleased they've learnt from Leviathan and Oz and actually doing a soft opening!

While still delaying the announcement until after DW have shown their hand

Alright, so I headed down this afternoon with me son to check it out. Got there at around 3 and it was not open, but opened up at around 3:40pm.

It’s in tech rehearsals i know so my experience is likely not going to be the “launch ready” experience people will get from Sunday, but for essentially 3 years of downtime, I expected more.

Full lights were on in the queue area, nothing playing on the screens.

Whilst the introduction of loose items boxes is welcome, the system is ridiculous with the boxes being in the load station, and then when you exit you need to walk through the door between stations back in through the people waiting to get loaded to get your stuff. That whole area therefore becomes just a mass of people bumping into each other.

The ride itself - it’s been a long while since I rode the first iteration of scooby but from memory I think most has basically returned. There is a large screen projection along the wall as you turn towards the axe swing and because it’s so vibrant it feels a little misplaced and jarring.

That final run into the lift is largely in darkness, and then zero light on the lift (glad those horrible screens with scrappy are gone), and then you don’t see light until you hit the brake run. Entirety of the wild mouse portion is complete darkness. Only light is the from the emergency exit signs on the doors. I haven’t decided if a like if tbh… the turntable after the backwards drop is no longer enclosed. I think some lighting makes for a more fun experience, and I think pitch black dark probably ages some younger riders out of it as not knowing your about to be slammed into a corner or drop may be too much for some.

The new brake run room is very different, better than the previous iteration but the static scooby statue with a clearly separate rubber head than only moved about 1mm when “talking” looks super cheap. No haze on the little drop. Tiki room remains the same from what I remember including the ghoul/monster breaking through the sign in the screen.

I’m glad it’s open because of the crowd it will suck out of the park, and it gives in indoor option on hot/wet days, but I wanted a bit more wow for all the downtime. Keen to hear other reviews come Sunday to see if maybe some things were just missing today

They really have a terrible track record for restoring theme elements after a massive shut down. That west shutdown with the new station and boats was the same. Same goes for years upon years worth of justice league closures. It's literally like, somewhere along the line, someone gives absolutely no f*cks for any of it and any planned repairs are canned.

I just can't work out if it's apathy or if its budgetary.

It's honestly pathetic that everyone seems comfortable with the results they keep producing. At some point I would have thought someone with an opinion that mattered would have had a word and a focus would have shifted to actually doing something about it parks wide, but, nope. Still seems the same as usual. I can't for the life of me think its because nobody in their maintenance teams either cares enough or has the skill to make these repairs, so it only leaves me to think it has to be a management decision. Village MO would tend to suggest they don't allocate the funds and the labour to not only fixing the issues, but to keep them maintained/working.

I remember a time when they wouldn't want to open with things broken/out of service. They would actively hold up openings while repairs were attempted, and if the ride supe made a note of it in their diary because it wasn't fixed, it would get passed on to maintenance teams and you would normally see something done about it within a week.
