Lol! Back on topic.......... As we know all rides go under repair, but honestly with Sea World's track record I can see why people on here have reacted the way they have about Sea Viper with Bermuda still SBNO and continuing to rot

wrong. if anything would be closed for a bermuda demolition/replacement it would be flume (runs through bermuda) or jet rescue (perimeter fence is partly made of the volcano.) BT has no bearing on Sea Viper

I have to agree with Reginaphalange, how did you come up with that assumption!?!?! In what way does Sea Viper have anything to do with the demolition with Bermuda Triangle. I can think of 3 other attractions that are closer or even more in the way for any demolition that could occur, Jet and Flume as mentioned above and the monorail track that passes right by! mba1012 think again!!!!!!

Sea Viper is closed due to many fractures in the track, as simple as that.. If you visit the park you can see repairs have been undertaken in several spots and many still to be done.

On Sea World maintentenance page Sea viper will reopen on 10th of September

well I hope this happens. I think we were all getting a bit worried about it not opening again

Maybe they needed to organise stuff to fix it, and organise WHS to approve each stage, maybe they're even waiting for an overseas rep to visit to approve it or something. I'm just guessing random crap and I'm certainly wrong, but at least they didn't just let this one go.

Well the track has a new coat of paint and the train is in the station so it might open sooner it seems

It wouldn't surprise me if they put it through 2 months of testing to see if the fixes hold enough though

glad to see it's getting back to business. This is to be a key part of our wedding ceremony, so hopefully they've fixed these problems once and for all. Although - to say it's got 7 or 8 years left in it - it is getting on in years...

^ Have you seen everything VRTP are doing at the moment and you think Sea Viper has "not been fixed" due to budget issues? It also would not surprise me even when it reopens if it closes after a while.

I was at Sea World today and Sea Viper was running empty.. Does this mean we will see the ride open sooner than September?

thats great news, At least we know they are actively trying to fix it. I always worry that things will just sit there and not get fixed, then just dissapear off the park maps.

Just to add to the previous discussion - I have from a very reliable source that persons associated with Viper's original manufacturer were called upon to inspect Viper's issues - and the conclusion was that it was not economically viable to repair. Apparently, Maintenance supported this decision, and wanted it removed as too costly to maintain. Management overruled this, and elected to have the repairs done, despite the overwhelming costs. No - my source is not a member of this forum, and no I won't reveal who they are - but yes, they are EXTREMELY reliable in all this. All I say is Kudos to management for investing in an icon, despite the economic advice to the contrary. See? not always just out there to save a buck make a buck....

I think it's safe to conclude that it won't be completed, since they haven't started work on anything yet, and are obviously focussing their attention on Justice League, having already installed a new attraction at SW in Dino Island.

As with sea viper I'm sure seaworld have been told by council a while ago that there is a height limit which it passes but as the coaster is already there it isn't a problem but if they were to remove it the new coaster would have to comply to the height rules (which are a joke from the gold coast council). It's also been a reason that we haven't had any large rides installed. Ps I first heard about the height restrictions back when we had the temporary seaworld eye and they had to get special permission to have it there. So I'm glad sea viper was saved but I would love for seaworld to fight the council and maybe we can see an improved seaworld in the future

To be truthful, I would not be overly concerned if SeaViper WERE pulled down. But in order for me to be entirely comfortable with the idea there would have to be some guarantee that it would be replaced with a coaster of similar or greater height and thrills. This of course would be problematic, given the height restrictions placed upon Seaworld. ( Can anyone give any more background info on why these restrictions are in place?) Of course, I also agree with AlexB's assessment for the decision to retain the ride and administer the repairs instead of replacement. The ride IS an icon of Seaworld, was Australia's first triple looping coaster, and has earnt its place in Australia's themepark history. It does deserve to stay. However, these repairs may only extend the lifespan of the ride by another 10 years. This would give Seaworld time to remove the ride on their terms and in their timeframes and would also allow for timely planning on the eventual replacement.

Would it be possible for SW to go to the state government for assistance with building a higher roller coaster, as the state gov has the ability to overrule the local council. It happens in certain parts of Sydney where there is a 20 story limit yet and the state government built a 40 story tower there. Of course they would need to have some incentive for the state gov but it may be their only way. Any one going to attack me here too?

No, but whining like a little school girl won't help your cause. Would it be possible for SW to go to the state government for assistance with building a higher roller coaster? Yes, but why would they? What incentive can they offer the government? There are 2 other parks within a close enough area that they have no need to grant them approval. I mean, sure, it might happen, but they would have to please a pretty damn good case for the government to step in and overrule the council. The excuse of those guys down the road have them, why can't I? probably wouldn't be the best.

Just an update on this. According to Sea World's Facebook page the Sea Viper has reopened this week. It's good to see the park did invest the money to get it back up and operating.

The height limit is in place to stop developers from turning the spit into an extension of Surfers Paradise. And it is awesome that Sea Viper has re-opened!

the local member for Southport was on the radio the other day, and had a few interesting tid-bits to add 1. She recently had delegates over from Dubai, who commented that half of SW was closed, and there were less attractions than when they were visiting 2 years ago 2. That there are discussions occurring with developers and SW about the possibility of building a casino 'within' the current grounds of SeaWorld - that will further attract the Asian tourists to the park/area/region.
